Ok, I am sure this information is scattered all over stangnet but I'm thinking it may be rather difficult to find. Seeing as how this is probably the most common setup in the world, and being interested in what my car will run, I think it deserves a thread.

For all you guys running gt40/p, tfs 1 cam, and any aftermarket intake, what your runnin' at the track? Please post mod list, and tires as well.

I am hoping to hit the track in a few months and see what my car will run. Here's what I'm running; Ported GT40p heads, TFS stage 1 cam, TFS Street Heat intake, Mac LT headers, O/R X-pipe, 3.73 gears, MSD ignition, under drive pullies, ET Street slicks. Also gonna throw some juice on it later.

My old 89 LX ran a best of 14.16@99mph with a T5-Z, 4.10's, FMS shorties, 1.7 Crane RR's, 24lb injectors, 73mm C&L MAF, an Explorer intake, and a 70mm Accufab TB/EGR spacer. This was on street tires, with advanced timing via a TweeCer, the car ran hard on the bottom end, and was great fun on the street. Wouldn't breath past 4800 rpms though, I now suspect the cats that the previous owners chopped into the O/R H pipe had over heated and were starting to clog, though I traded the car off before I ever found out.

The average guy is going to run a mid low 13 with gt40p heads.
Some practice and sticky tires should yield low 13's high 12's.

Port work is a variable on any head, how well it's done makes all the difference.

The way i see it, any time with those heads that starts with a 12 is a victory.

Yea it went 13.3@99 1.8 60' on ET streets with stock e7's and Bcam, and other basic goodies. But then I went 13.6@101 after only swapping to stock GT40p heads, that was on street tires though with a 2.2 60'. I think it has 12's in it the way it sits now. We shall see. I know what this setup should probably run, but I am interested in seeing actual times, anyone else?

most people wouldnt have went that fast with e7's.

13.9's seems pretty good for E7s. I only ran down the strip one night in my life, but I was able to do 14.4s with stock H/C/I, some bolt ons and 3.73s. This was on street tires with the trac-loc out and 2.2 60ft times.

The cars going 11s are doing so after a lot of trail, error, learning and work. I remember the days my fathers old P combo was running 13.0-12.9s. Then 12.8s, then 7s, then 6s... Then a bit more work and it was going 12.4-12.5. Then more little things and it was in the 12.2-12.3s. Then tweaking it into the 12.0-12.1s. Then he put that motor in my brothers street car and it was back into the 12.5-12.6s. Then tweaking it once again down into the lower 12s. Then after a fresh short block, a custom cam and even more getting it right, the car is solid 11.7-11.8s. On paper it reads as a GT40P (larger valves, valve job, rockers, etc...), custom cam, Cobra intake car, but theres a lot of little things we have done over the years to it.

In comparison. My father tossed an explorer 5.0 with an HO cam and bolt ons into my sister 89 GT. At the track the car went low 14s. The same driver that took his 393 all motor stroker 4-speed into the high 9s, was stuck in the low 14s at under 100 mph. The funny thing, he was happy with it! So there are two GT40P motors sitting side by side, running 2.5 seconds apart, simply due to years of tweaking and working the car into going fast.

I went 13.76@99 with lightly ported e7's, stock cam, stock intake, with lightly ported lower... 3.73's t5z 65mm tb

I went 8.812 @ 82.41, 2.112 60 ft. with my old combo. 9.0:1 302, gt40, tfs 1, 1.7rr, 24lb, c&l mass air system, etc....That was on et streets with bad boggin.

See sig for new combo and times....on street tires with a 2.288 60 ft.

I think with the right suspension and a stout drivetrain, I should be in the low 8's. My mph are right there with guys running low 8's and who are cutting 1.6 60 fts.

On a side note, my father-n-law ran a 11.5:1 302 with home ported p's, the intake thats on my car now, an Anderson Cam in a track prepped car and ran the quickest of 11.23 @ 119 mph. That was a 2850lb car, full drag suspension.

My coupe went 13.5 at 101mph with a 1.9 60ft on bone stock motor with the air silencer still in the fender. With just off road h-pipe and flowmaster catback and 355 gears on street tires. Havent been to the track since h/c/i and i have a trickflow stage one cam and trick flow heads and a gt-40 tube intake and ford racing shortys

Keep in mind there are so many variables here. Heads are just one part in many parts of a car that will get it down the track. I'm running 8.6's at 87mph with a bone stock 5.0 engine and stock AOD in a hatch, (so about 13.5 at 107 in the 1/4) but it's not in the condition it left the factory from I can promise you that. What is more interesting is what difference it made replacing the heads and cam with everything else the same.

GT40p's are cheap and it's an easy upgrade, but they are no holy grail or horsepower. I might do a set as long as I can get them for a decent price. I'll stick with the stock cam for a while. I need to do the intake because the previous owner didn't seal it right in the back so it leaks oil, and while I'm in there, might as well.

Oh, and what headers are all of you running. A guy I talked to said he ran stock headers but used 90* boots on the plugs and had no problems.

on my old car before i let her go i had a 1996 explorer long block with the 40 irons, not the p's, tfs 1 cam, t-5, 3.73 gears and all the bs bolt ons went 13.4@ 107 with a 2.25 60ft. all that on a lowered gt car with 275/40/17 bfg drag radials.

i had a hunch that my gears in the trans were changed because i was going through the trapps at around 5k in 4th gear. but that car is gone now......soo sad. now i have to try to make a convertible with an aod go fast.......good luck right
