Which clutch for ~400 RWHP (blown)?

My NA 5.0 makes just short of 300 hp at the wheels. The stock clutch is slipping during hard pulls already and I'm adding a Paxton 1220 SL blower that will make around 10 psi (3.33" pulley w/ 8" crank pulley). I'm going to try to make sure my combo doesn't make more than 400-410 hp (to try to save the stock short block).

What clutch will do the job?

Is a SPEC I or II worth it or will a King Cobra do it?
1986-1995 Ford Mustang King Cobra 10.5" Clutch Kit Package - UPR-M-7560-C302 - UPR Products

UPR claims it's good for 600+ hp but I've seen the kit by Ford Racing rated at 325 hp... is this the same kit???

Recommendations please!??!?!

THANKS!

Centerforce Dual Friction or Ram PowerGrip both get my vote. Had a DF on my car making 480rwh and it worked well, have the powergrip on my car now and i also have had good luck with it.

Another thumbs up to the Centerforce Dual Friction. Has a stock feel at the pedal and its been handling 440 at the wheels since '05 no problem.

I'm running the Spec II right now and I love it. I've had the King Cobra (good clutch, probably a little limited for your power goal) and Ram HDX (lasted 1400 miles before pressure plate failed). I love the Spec; although, it grabs really well, which means it won't absorb so much of the shock, which will get pass along to your tranny. But so far, great clutch. I read a lot of bad reviews and a lot of good reviews on them. Drive ability is not bad, a little touchy, but easily manageable. My fathernlaw and brothernlaw swear by them, and Ricks91GT gave me a nod on them, so I decided to try it out. I think he can get you a pretty good price on them if you decide to try it out.

I have the Ram clutch and have had no problems with it ... dumping at 6000 rpms a few times and it grabs everytime .. 11.20 @ 120.75 was my last run 2 weeks ago and still is hookin great on the street....

F it... get a spec Stage III. Then you won't have to worry about a clutch again as long as you're still running a stock block. I've got a 3+ and have learned how to be easy on the launch. It's obviously a little more aggressive so it takes a more sensitive foot to keep the car smooth, but it also handled about 800 rwhp, so I'm not complaining.

Thanks for the feedback.

I had a bad experience with a RAM on my '69 so I'm not going that direction again. Had to go back to a more stock configured clutch due to crazy chatter - so much so that it broke one of my engine mounts!.
:jaw:

So far it looks like Centerforce and SPEC are pretty universally approved.

ecosaint,
I'll PM you...

I just put a RAM on mine..... used it befor without problems. If you order a SPEC, heard it takes a minute to get, its made when you order....fyi

IMO the spec clutches are way to agressive and can lead to premature transmission problems. What sold me on the RAM stuff is that Brad at liberty said he had hundreds of passes on his and it is still holding up great. If you look hard enough someone will have had some kind of problem with every clutch on the market. Alot of guys say centerforce is junk because the weights stick at higher RPMs, but ive never seen that personally.

yea, maybe it's a bad idea but I was planning on running my T5 for now. I don't plan to ever use slicks so I figure my tires will act as a 'power limiter' and hopefully keep other parts from breaking.

Thanks!
