Not another "which shifter" thread...

mgw, or tri-ax. or just let me drive it, ill give you $300 upfront for a newish t5. basically anything is better than a stock shifter, but the mgw is the best BY FAR.

I only saw your first and your last run last night.

Seriously, I should have let you drive it last night. Next time we're at the track, you're making a pass. I want to see what you think.

Sounds like 90lxcoupe is onto something here, I like the pedal close to the floor too myself which is fine when you're street driving and being more deliberate about clutch in then shift, I could see where "fast granny'ing" with a lower release point could be an issue.

As for the shifter, well I have nothing but praise for the MGW!

Pro50 is a good shifter, and it's the only one I've used in both the T5 and TKO varieties. Can't speak to the rest.

90s dead on about adjusting your clutch, though. Consider pre-loading your shifter so you've already got the force going in the direction its supposed to. Then there's no thought to it. You just pump the clutch pedal and the rest works itself out.

wait... people lift when they shift?

Haha, they do when they have an hour drive home and no easy access to a trailer.

We have AAA, but those guys take 2 hours to show up.

Hmmm, interesting method! I'll have to give that a shot.

All this crap about drag racing... There's a little more to it than I was aware of, haha.

as for the MGW... talk to some pro racers and see what they run. all the ones i know run pro5.0's

Me too. I have had both a Pro-5.0 and a MGW, and I have to say they're both great pieces. The MGW is more of a "tight" feel in every gear, but it's a lot easier to miss the 2-3 shift with it than with the Pro-5.0. I never missed with the Pro-5.0, but miss a pretty good bit with the MGW I have now. I say go with a Pro-5.0. You won't regret it. MGW is better for a solid feel in a street car, while a Pro-5.0 seems to be better for the track and really beating the piss out of the car.

Well, since no one has mentioned our shifter, I'll have to leave that alone... but I will say this:

The fact that you implied that the missing shifts problem is a recent development suggested to me that the clutch cable could be stretching or the clutch quadrant is worn out. (if it's still stock) Personally, I adjust my clutch so that there is a little bit of tension in the cable without my foot on it. That way the point where the clutch disengages is fairly high.

As previously mentioned by someone else, I pre-load the shifter, kick the clutch pedal (no where near the carpet) and rip perfect powershifts! But as stated, I don't use the shifters that other people in this thread are recommending. Not that they are bad, I just use a different shifter.

Im thinking synchros, or a mis-adjusted cable. I dont think its the shifter if its just not going into gear, but does it fine on the street. The gears arent matching speed close enough to allow the fast shift. That being said, if you want to try an MGW shifter for ****s and giggles, I just took one off my t-5 and planned on throwing it in the classifieds. Send me a PM.

Car's got a brand new Maximum Motorsports cable, an aluminum FRPP quadrant, and one of YOUR firewall adjusters. It aint broke. My shifting has just always sucked, it's just been more pronounced here lately as I've been gunning for 12s.

What are the chances your synchronizers are wearing out?

Haha, Christ guys, the car aint broke.

My old man has been a mechanic for 30 something years, and if I've learned one thing from him, it's that the most likely solution is often the most obvious. The trans isn't broke, I just probably need to make some adjustments and bone up on my technique.

maybe the car has ED?

Now that depends on what you mean by ED!

The Pro 5.0 has always had a good reputation by the drag racing community. I have never had one so I can't really give an opinion either way. I have also heard good things about the MGW too, but not so much in a drag racing scenario.

I do have the Steeda Tri-Ax in my 93. I like it and have never missed a shift with it installed. However due to mis-adjusted stops (my error) I broke 3rd gear in T-5 number 3.

for what its worth i almost ordered one when i broke the handle on my Pro5.0

I'm very happy with my setup, never miss third. Its a BBK gripp shifter with an mgw shaft that's bolts to the shifter itself. Topped with a cobra leather handle. The mgw is angled so far back that in 2nd and 4th., it almost touches the bezel and in 3rd and 5th, it looks like its in neutral.

Stock shifter! It's guaranteed the BEST EVER

For the longest time, i ran stock shifter with aftermarket handle. It worked fine for me.

When i swapped to a steeda tri-ax, i noticed very little difference.

I actually noticed more of a difference when i went from tri-ax to my current MGW (best shifter ever IMHO)

Nick other than doing a check for proper clutch adjustment, etc doubt it's your driving. i scanned the post kinda quickly but missing 3rd is common and missing gears under powershifting is easy on a stock shifter and can be done on some aftermarket ones. yes the worn parts in the tranny canm be the issue but I'm thinking knowing you this would have be found already. The MGW, Tri-axe and pro 5 are all very good shifters but each have there own feel but are my top 3. The MGW is my top choice and the pro 5 would run a close 2nd. The return set up in the MGW is very nice and build is top notch, I also started with a stock knob then I had the '03 cobra style. these didn't really make me miss persay but they slowed me has the feel wasn't that good. I then went to a bullitt/mach 1 ford racing knob, much better, the ball type knob allows me anyways to get a good grip ( man is it hard to describe this w/o sound like well you know :p) over the top of the shifter and the really nice throws of the MGW I can really rip through the gears nice. I'm also running a MMS quad, cable and adjuster with king cobra clutch. I think if you spring for a better shifter/knob setup yuo are going to notice a a change right away, that said my vote MGW :nice:.
