Shifting in place

My son likes to sit in my new mustang gt and shift the gears, dreaming he is driving.will this harm the tranny?

shouldn't, but I still wouldn't let me daughter/son play in my vehicle....Sounds like you need to pick him up a power wheel or something

Gotta agree with the first response......never let any of my kids play in a vehicle.....even one that was broke down never to run again. They just are not toys.

Then I would explain to him the importance of not sitting behind the wheel and playing, and will have more than plenty of time behind the wheel in the near future....Just not this one

Hell, if you let me, I'd sit in it and pretend too! I doubt he's gonna hurt anything. Some kids just have to "try" things and next thing you know, it's rolling outta the driveway! You know your kid, if he's just pretend driving and not pretend drag racing let him. If he's the kind that has to "try" things, maybe not.

IMO if you are really jamming the shifter as you would if you were drag racing without the drivetrain in motion then you are really putting some stress on the syncro teeth.

I let my 2 year old sit in my car all the time and play. He loves to pretend like he's driving, shifting, sticking the key in and out, etc... not sure WTF is wrong with that

FWIW, the windows are always down so it's not like he could lock himself in there (I have a spare in the house anyways) and he can't reach the clutch so would never be able to start the thing...

There is nothing wrong with letting him play. He wont hurt anything as long as he doesn't force anything.

Hell I was 3 years old in 1950 and I took my granddads keys for his 1947 Cadillac off the kitchen table, put them in the ignition, pushed the starter button, stood up on the seat, pulled down the shift lever into D and off I went down the driveway until the car came to an abrupt but gentle halt against the iron fence that separated the end of the driveway from a 12 foot drop !! I scared the crap out of everyone but me

Somehow I never did become a car thief but my family always though I would wind up a lawyer defending them in court.

haha.. yeah there's nothing wrong with letting 'em play as long as they don't force anything!...
just tell your kids about that.. (but if you know that your kids are so curious about every thing I guess you must not let 'em ) I know they'll understand...but if they would (fake) drive my black mustang I'll say
