SYNC stopped recognizing g/f's phone

My wife's Fusion does NOT have navigation. My phone and her's is a HTC Desire.
Mine works fine on my 2010 Mustang. Her's initially worked on her Fusion than lost all of the phone book and started dropping calls. We have Bluegrass Cellular, a regional provider in Kentucky. They worked with her for hours. It would work for a few minutes than quit.
I never tried my phone with her car or her phone with my car. I don't want to mess my car up. As I said before, my iPod also worked find with my car but has problems with hers. Thus, my conclusion that the old version of Sync works fine and the new version has problems.
I can also tell you that I would think twice before buying a new Mustang or any other Ford because of these problems and I bleed Ford blue.
My wife has another, older phone, an LG, same carrier, which works. So, she has given up using her Desire (her work phone) with Sync. Her previous car, a Focus, had Sync and worked fine with all her devices. (Also older Sync system).
Ford needs to solve this.

I just got off the phone with the SYNC center. I did a master reset and repaired the phone . I have a 12 for 8 weeks and the phone worked fine until today, the phone is an HTC EVO 4G.

Hey DoubleTap,

You might want to try Reverse Pairing the phone, since some phones hold a better connection when paired this way. When you reverse pair SYNC will find your phone, instead of your phone finding SYNC. You will have to put the phone in a Discoverable Mode. If you don't know how to do that, please refer to the Owner Guide for the phone.

Reverse Pairing instructions for a standard radio:

1. Press the PHONE button to access the phone menu
2. Scroll to ADD DEVICE and press OK
3. It will display FIND SYNC and begin giving instructions, instead of following the instructions, seek left one space
4. It should then display FIND DEVICES
5. Press OK with your phone set to discoverable mode, and SYNC will find your phone
6. Select your phone from the list of nearby devices and press OK
7. It will ask for a PIN (Use 1-2-3-4)
8. Say the PIN as if you were giving a command, it will repeat it back to you after you finish
9. Press OK
10. Your phone will ask for a PIN, enter the same one
11. After pressing OK or enter on your phone, they will attempt to make the connection

Reverse Pair for navigation radio:

1. Press the PHONE button to access the phone menu
2. Select SETTINGS
3. Select ADD
4. Select FIND OTHER DEVICES
5. Select your phone from the list of devices SYNC finds
6. You will be prompted to enter a PIN on the keypad on your screen, Enter 1-2-3-4
7. Your phone will ask for a PIN, enter the same one you entered on your vehicle
8. After pressing OK or enter on your phone, they will attempt to make the connection

Let me know how this works.

Thanks for the info. I will work on this and get back to you. I hope this doesn't sway your long-term loyalty!

Hi Natasha,

The day after I paired the phone I left New York for a week in Miami to attend a wedding :) when I get back I will try the reverse pairing.

Thank you for your advice, information and help.

Best wishes

I did a reverse pair

Have a great time in Miami! :D Let me know how it goes when you try the reverse pairing.

~Natasha

I did the reverse Pair and it seems to have solved most of the problems. However the car still does not pick up the phone automatically about 25% of the time. This is definitely a problem with the Sync System because the phone will connect to any Bluetooth device I pair it with without any problem.

I feel very strongly that this is a bad design factor on the part of Ford and they should correct it ASAP.

I like this car very much, it is a total blast to drive, but if this is a problem that Ford can't or wont address and fix it would be enough for me to rule out Ford for my next vehicle. I am on the phone a great deal of the time for business and it is a necessity for me to have a system the functions without any problems.

Have you updated to the latest SYNC software? You can check for updates here - Verify your VIN to access your SYNC owner account as a guest - Please Enter Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

If that doesn't help, you may want to call our Our In-Vehicle Technology team at 800.392.3673 (option 1 then 3) for additional troubleshooting tips.

Hope you had a good time at the wedding! :)
