alright let me set this scenario up. i have added a vortech S trim to my fox and i had to swap out radiator and fan combo. i got the car running but it started getting hot, i felt the upper hose and it was cool. i thought well i may have air in the system so i took the rad cap off and turned the heat wide open and went to 210 and no heat and no flow through the rad hose still cool. i put in a new 180* thermostat last night and went to 210 again and still cool upper hose. the belt setup is different but the pump is still turning ccw. any help or advice would be great.

no. i pulled mine which was a fail safe that is suppose to fail open. i put it in a pan of water and it finally came open but i didnt have a temp gun to check when it opened. i didnt test the new one. got me thinking now its not the thermostat. i almost want to pull it and try it without one.

it goes in spring toward intake right?
Correct.

Use a better one like this:

Top (pointy end) goes towards front of vehicle.

Water gets no hotter than 212degF. Never heard of a fail safe that fails open.

im thinking the same thing but the crazy thing is all was fine until i added a vortech. i checked the water pump which has been on that motor and it was turning ccw which from what i gather is correct. its aggravating to know that i have to scrape all that dang silicone back off. i wonder if it would seal without silicone and just the gasket to try it without a stat? surely its not the stat i just put in brand dang new. logically thinking though i need to try it without it. it does go in spring toward the intake?

alright just put my game plan into motion. i got a new stat that had the bypass hole in it to relieve air and circulate a little at all times but the hole has a little brass thing loose in it that seems to me could seal itself off so i added an 1/8" hole 180* from it so theres no way air cant get out. i tested it before and after the drilled hole and it opens at 180. after i torque the water neck bolts tomorrow i am going to add anti-freeze into the water neck to fill any pocket before i put my upper hose back on. fingers crossed lol. i will update tomorrow night. if its air this has to work. :nice:

after doing all the above it still failed after several bad words i wound up lifting the front end all the way up on jack stands turning the water pump pulley by hand (belt off) i seen bubbles in the radiator, cranked it up till tempature and bam ... problem solved, air removed, thermostat open, full circulation. bet this wont stick me next time.
thanks everybody :hail2:
