Ok so I have done main bolt on add ons for my car and now I am getting new gears but now I am wanting to know what suspension stuff I should get and in what order. Lowering kit is my first but then what? I dont plan on supercharging it or anything soon. I want my car to hook up more.....please give me some good advice?

BTW:

50% of hooking, is in the weight transfer. When you order some shocks and struts, get some strange 10 way adjustables. I have them on my car and they are awesome.

As far as brand name's for suspension stuff, you are going to get 2 different answers. UPR and Maximum Motorsports

I am a huge fan of UPR. That's what 100% of my suspension consist of. I'm sure Handz will get on here and say that UPR suspension products suck. All I will say about that is, my car hooks in 1st gear from a dig on the street on street tires and makes over 450rwtq.

^ I think it depends on what you want out of the car really... some prefer to run auto-x or road courses, while others prefer the 1/8 or 1/4 mile. In this case OP wants to "hook better on the street" and probably can't go wrong with either UPR or MM. I will say though that OP indicated his car doesn't and won't have big HP soon, and IMO MM LCA's and FLSFC's would be preferable to a UPR 4 link setup for a street driven car. It will handle well, not be too harsh, and will hook much better than stock.

The only way a Upper and lower control arm set up will be harsh, is if spherical bushings are used. UPR offers their control arms with spherical and poly bushings.

I have been running UPR's stuff since I first got my car and have loved it. If I was building a car to auto cross, I would put MM suspension on it. For everything else, I will stick to UPR.

Yup. UPR for the win! Works really well in a straight line, and can work well in the corners with the right dampeners. (we don't carry konis or bilsteins... yet) :nice:

Handz is an arrogant moron, his opinions are void.

You may think handz IA a moron but FWIW if I had to make a choice between UPR and Maximum Motorsports, I'd choose MM every time. MM stuff is incredibly high quality and IMO their parts are better for an all around performance perspective (handling, ride quality, and strip performance) .

well now we are getting somewhere....i already have michelin pilot's...$330 a piece so i think im good on tires but I think im gonna order this weekend. I finally got my wife to let me pull the trigger...then next summer will be a supercharger and that jazz

I was just referring to handz in general :D

And weigh 20 pounds more.. I guess its all opinion i believe in nothing but UPR, im sure MM is nice and top notch, whatever, UPR is just as top notch and quality, but yea whatever works
:nice:

I have said it plenty of times, I like MM's stuff, just not for drag racing. Their K member kit's barely weigh less than a factory K member. Same goes with all their other suspension products. If I was building a car strictly for Road racing or auto cross, I would use MM. But for everything else, I will stick to UPR.

You show me one 5 second 1/8th mile car that runs Maximum Motorsports suspension, and I will show you ten 4 second 1/8th mile cars that run UPR suspension. FACT.

Again I'm not ripping on UPR's products and I think they have a place and a purpose if you intend on building a quarter mile/eighth mile drag car. However, as someone who owns a car that is driven primarily on the street, I don't understand why anyone would choose UPR over MM unless it was due to the price difference.

I've had first hand experiences with 2 very similar cars that had very different suspension setups. One car had MM LCA's and a TA and the other one had a UPR 4-link. There's absolutely no comparison the MM LCA's + TA provide much better control and handling than the UPR 4-link does. There is also less of a chance of experiencing snap oversteer with the MM set up described in the previous sentence due to the corrective nature of the TA combined with the compliant factory UCA's.

Now if all you like to do is launch hard and drive straight by all means buy UPR stuff. In fact that's what is designed for. UPR doesn't even sell Bilstein's, but they do sell strange adjustable shocks... why do you think that is? Could it be because they know they build and sell products that are best suited for drag racers?

As far as weight is concerned, you're right some of UPR's suspension components don't weigh as much. Again, to the drag racer weight is the enemy which is why their components are light... OTOH road racers prefer to have components that are strong enough to handle the rigors of running through an autocross or road course. For me, it is an added comfort knowing that my MM suspension components are over-engineered w/ no compromises. If I ever get in an accident the strength and integrity of these superior components may save my life.

OP, take these comments for what they're worth and make your decision based on the feedback from everyone here. I think there are good arguments for both suspension companies. However, I enjoy driving a well rounded car that can handle and launch well, and still maintain very good road manners... therefore I'll choose MM suspension components every time :nice:
