Hey guys,

So my block is getting redone at the shop and will be there for a while.

What are some common upgrades to the chassis that are best done with the motor out of the car?

Brake booster upgrade?
Steering rack?

Thanks,
Jason

My motor is out now too and have doing some upgrades. I did a 93 Cobra booster for rear disc brakes, firewall clutch adjuster, and a new rag joint. I also stripped the bay and repainted with base/clear coat. Everything I removed I either cleaned or repainted and replaced rusty bolts and screw with stainless hardware.

Yeah the brake booster/master cylinder were definitely on my list. When you upgraded, did you need to also install new hard lines to the distribution block? Or will the factory lines match up to the cobra parts?

Hide most of the spaghetti wires in the fender well. Redo your vacuum lines, clean / scrub the firewall and everything that's grimy. Now's your time to be real anal about how everything looks. Use wire looms to cover lines, zip tie things, etc.

Awesome. I ordered 93 cobra booster and MC along with the MM adapter lines. Something I wanted to do anyways to prepare for the 5 lug conversion after the motor is done.

Thanks for the heads up

Fill in about 100 extra holes in the firewall and inner fender pannels, and detail the eng. comp. :)

Yeah... After doing a bit of research I ordered some POR-15 Epoxy Putty to fill the holes. And I'm going to try a site like http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ to repaint using their aerosol paint (matches factory paint code). A friend has used similar products pretty successfully! Thanks for the tip

K member... yeah I'd love to get one while engine is out. It just seems a big domino effect of upgrades. If you get the K member you need A arms. If you get A arms, you should really upgrade to coilovers.

Would it be reasonable to just get tubular K member with tubular A arms, then bolt them up to the stock spindle/etc?

Or better to just wait until I have the cash to upgrade k member, a arms, 4 lug to 5 lug conversion, etc all at once?

yeah you can use a tubular k member and tubular a arms with the spring perches so you can use stock springs or use a tubular k member with stock arms or whatever you want but changing the k member was one of the last things I did and I now wish it was one of the first things I did.

Which k member did you go with?

You can get the QA1 Tubular K-Member and use the stock A-Arms. Just requires some grinding the A-arms to clear. I went this route on my 94. Plus I had MAC 1-3/4" Ceramic Long Tube headers. These probably would have been a PITA with the stock K-Member. I painted my engine bay while I was waiting for the 347 to be delivered. I also hid all the wires I could into the fenders. Wanted to get rid of the spaghetti wires.

Very nice Vibrant. Any opinion on the TeamZ K member? Seems to be pretty popular as well and is like half the price of the Maximum Motorsports one.

I got the QA1 K-Member because it was the only one that could be used with stock A-Arms. Are there better K-members? Yes. The TeamZ and Maximum Motorsports do make better fantastic K-Members. I bought the QA1 for $219 and since I used the stock A-Arms that was all I spent. I had just dropped $7K on a 347 and exhaust. Since the motor was out I figured getting the K-Member would be a good idea. However funds weren't available for an entire coil over set up but $219 was a steal so that's what I did. If you can swing a TeamZ front tubular suspension then do it while you have the chance. Email Tom Z. and he can give you a deal on the suspension if you buy a complete kit. The 10-way Strange struts and shocks from him are priced great as well.
