So if this posts again im sorry. I think i deleted the first one because it didnt post, i dont know if they need approval first by admin or not. Any way I have the 2004 F-150 with a 4.6(w) v2 that im trying to make in to a daily driver sport truck demon. however i dont have deep pockets to build up this 4.6 all at once or switch the block out. First I'm confused as to performance part for this motor. Is my motor the same as the 4.6 in the 99-04 mustang gt? im thinking if it is i want to install a centrifugal type blower since idk if they make a on the top of the intake type blower that will fit my truck. so since I have the heads off i can get to the pistons easy to build up the bottom end to support the blower, would this be a good time and would it matter if i run the block naturly asperated for awhile. thats if pistons are needed. also ive never done a cam switch so im wondering do the heads need to be out to replace them? So i guess im asking, If you can only remove the heads with the block out (pain in the ass by the way), and we all know the motor needs to be out to do pistons what would you do? like i said my pockets arent deep so this has to be done in stages and keeping the block out to do a build up isnt an option. If you have any more questions please ask, other wise thank you for your input

Thanks bro. i was hoping to buy a gallon of body filler a roll pan and a ton of fiber glass to finaly be able to smooth out the pocket hooks on the outside of the bed and the steps, just general smoothing of the box but stupid motor wanted some attention and won.

do you know what is different with the intake because they look the same but im sure they are not. the only thing i didnt happen to see if it was the same or not was the way the trottle body mounts to it since i left mine on when i pulled the motor. however the pic seems really close. it was the intake that made me wonder if the 99-04 mustang parts would work. but thanks for the info otherwise this means i can start asking for mustang parts :hail:

The intake manifolds look the same??? They are completely different. For starters, the Mustang manifold feeds from the pass side, while the F150 feeds from the front.

You should seriously consider taking your truck (which, by the way, looks great) to a reputable speed shop that works on, Fords, Mustangs in particular, and, specifically, has a lot of experience with the mod motor. If they have experience with the mod motor in trucks, that's a plus, but not really required since, as Nightfire indicated, the engines are pretty much the same. Your post gave me the impression that you've never built an engine, or, at least not the mod motor, and there is no shame in that, but it's not an engine that is simple and certainly not forgiving. The tolerances are very tight and it's ultra critical that they are accurate.

I know you stated you don't have a lot of money to pour into this project, but you really don't need a forged bottom end if you keep the boost down to a reasonable level. Also, I would check with the manufacturers, such as Kenne Bell, but I'd think that their positive displacement blower would fit under the stock hood. If it fits under the stock Mustang hood, I gotta think it would fit under the F150 hood.
Best of Luck!

thanks for the input, and by the wall your guys cars look great, and a lot of fun. The picture i saw of an intake was for the plasic upgrade intakes for mustangs. like i said i look the same but i havent been able to look at mine vs. that one. as far as the side that is feed from im assuming your talking about which side of the vehical the air filter is on that goes to the intake. if so i though the throttle body dictated that as where mustangs curved to the passanger side and f150 curved to the driver side. No i dont have much experiance building motors, ive re-built i 1974 mopar 318 and a 1988 toyota 22re. thats it this is all new to me, as where i know enough to get in to trouble but not enough to get my self out of trouble. this is why ive turned to forums which thank you for all your input, its been really amazing. I was told by the dealer when this all started that the heads are not rebuildable do to the talerances, so i dont think ill be building this one. however i do want to do my homework on this motor before going to some one to build. one again thank you guys and if you have any other helpful info it would be extreamly helpful
