hey i was looking for some info and advice. i just picked up a 1994 cobra and was wondering about the engine. has basic stuff pulleys exhaust and cold air. would like to get a little more out of it. I know it has the gt 40 heads from what i read it has 1.7 roller rockers is that true and i am not sure about the stock cam profile. would an e cam do anything also some after market roller rockers and then obviously a different intake. also i have a concern with the oil cooler lines they are a little rusty. from what i have come up with getting a new pair of tubes is not an option. i have herd a lot of people just remove and bypass the cooler lines. was thinking of doing this and maybe putting a simple aftermarket one on. don't want to lose it completely. any help or advice with my new toy would be great this is my first 5.0 cobra had many gts though.
thanks

Yes, you have 1.7 Crane roller rockers. Your stock cam is just about the same as the GT can, E cam would pick up some nice HP. I had to remove my oil cooler when I did my Procharger, no ill effects. I sold my lines they were in great shape. They are hard to find about the only way is used, as far as I know. One good thing I can run the HUGE FL-1 Ford racing oil filter (3 times the size of a FL-300). Pulley's won't do much for a Cobra, they already have underdriven pulley's on them. A set of long tube headers, and a matching H, or X mide pipe. would do you some good. A LONG time ago when I did a t/body, and a cold air intake and a mass air flow, all at the same time, didn't notice as much as I thought. If and when you do a Intake manifold, then, would be the time for a cold air, t/body and a bigger mass air flow. What are your HP gole's for the Cobra? How will you drive it? Daily? Race? Weekends and nice days?

I plan on it being driven on the street mostly and maybe a track visit here or there. it already does have the cold air and full exhaust but with short tube headers. i definitely plan on long tubes some time. can't beat the sound. i will probably only switch to a different intake and maybe a cam it sounds like with the original short block and a tune. but eventually a new short block and a s.c. or turbo will be added still for street mostly. do you have to leave the oil cooler base in place where the filter screws on or can it be removed. maybe the pulleys on the car are factory the were on it when i got it and just didn't look stock but my amps drop at idle with the lights and fog lights on so i figured it was from those like a fox body

This is just my opinion but a intake on a stock cobra is pretty good I am not saying that it is the best but as long as the stock heads are still in place I think a intake won't net you much gain. A cam on the other hand can help a cobra some. I did have a aftermarket cam in my car before I had some other engine issues and it does give you a nice gain. I would not pick a motorsport cam as they are old tech and there are some much better cam profiles out there now. I am personally looking at TFS stage 1, comp XE270, and a anderson N21 to name a few.
