Hey guys, been quite a while since I last posted, hope everyone is doing well. I bought an 09 GT 5 spd last week, and so far I love it. But I seem to be having a minor issue with the shifter. I think the shift handle is a bit out of alignment or something, because the shift boot/ knob rubs against the console in 1st and 2nd gear, causing a bit of wear on the shift boot. It's almost as if the the shift handle needs to be moved slightly so it doesn't rub. Not sure how common this is, feel free to chime in!

Hi Mike,

Congrats on the new-to-you Mustang! I'm not aware of it being a common concern. You may want to bring it to a local Ford dealer for inspection, just to make sure everything is in place and rule out any possible issues.

Keep me posted!

Sounds like somebody put in an ill-fitting aftermarket shifter. Mine is factory and only comes up about 6-8 inches. No way stock shifter could just be out of alignment to cause that problem.

Check and see if it's an aftermarket shifter, and see if the handle is put on the Passenger side. When I installed my Tri-Ax I put the handle on the drivers side, and it caused my shift boot to rub on the console.

It just seems to me the shifter knob shouldn't rub on the console in 1st or 2nd gear, I can't imagine that's part of the "design". It will definetly get worn out in time.
