i am getting ready to fit the 4.6 into the 80 model, i have a 93 dash in it at the moment. i noticed the hook-ups for the ac evaporator are bigtime different, will the sn 97 evaporator core & heater core fit into a 93 plenum? if not will the 97 plenum fit into the 93 dash? this is worth sorting out now before i put the engine in.

I would have the 93 units cut and have the fittings from the 197 welded on, I am in the process of swaping an 02 dash in a 81 fox and the heater box with core and A/C is a bit diff I swapped the 02 in so I didn't have to make some pieces for the dash to work.

There might be a better answer, I would say the evaporator and core are def. diff.

Here are two tips to help you if you do a cut and fit as suggested above.
Tube swager to enable you to stretch the I.D. of one tube so that it slides over another tube. This enables you to braze the tubes together very simply and easily.

Stick the swager in one tube, use your flaring tool clamp block to grip the tube. Leave 1"- 1 .5" or so of tubing sticking up above the flaring tool clamp block and tap away to enlarge the ID of the tube. When you finish, the tube you just reworked will slide over a tube of the same original diameter. Makes brazing them together to form a leak proof job much easier.

Low temp aluminum brazing alloy - they even show pictures of an A/C pressure line brazed using a propane torch! http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=aluminum

thanx for both the ideas fellas, i'm gonna se if i can score a better sn97 dash, i hate to do the whole dash swap thing again, but it may be the way to go. how much of a pain is involved with swapping the dash units over, i see there is a bearing? at the bottom of the steering collumn, what did you do for that? did you have to cut much off the sn97 dash, does the defrost work, did the plenum fit in ok, or was some "modification" required? does the shifter and the console transfer over. i'm certain to have more questions. better to be forewarned & informed!!! any pix?

I would leave the dash, unless your married to the idea its a lot of work and the defrost will be "jimmyd" someone who can tig weld should be able to weld those ends on for 50 bucks tops.

cool!! while i have a chance, as i have an extra fox evap core, i will try to mock the sn 97 * fox cores side by side , and if they are a close enough fit in the plenum, i will report back. i am going to install the hydro boost as well. maybe i'll hold off with the dash as cash is short. it was a cool idea tho. just seems a lot of work.

Only the one end needs changed. I had the threaded end from the fox evap tigged on for almost free. Works flawlessly. A/C was COLD last summer. The cores and HVAC box's are COMPLETELY different internally. I tired putting the fix core in the SN95 HVAC and it was a no-go.

it's a mistake, i have 2 mustangs that im parting-out, one is a 95 and the other a 97, i suppose i got confused and called the 97 an sn97, the 97 is a gt with bad interior & the 95 is a v-6 with good interior, i'm looking forward to the 4.6 install. i'll also fuse some of the interior into my red 80 model. so i will probably car the car a "fox-95". i'm trying to figure out how to merge the wiring from the fox to the 4.6 without damaging the sn95 loom, so when i change the dash, it should be pretty clean looking and reliable.

not yet, i havent started the disassembly as im still using the car, i am working on the wiring issues to mate with the sn95 as easy as poss, so i am in the info gathering mode. i'll be doing the "lump" first. (engine) then the a/c . later i'll do the dash. i think pix will be nice as it will explain things a bit.
