Ok I know this been asked a million times but I'm going to ask again. I broke my key in my ignition and replaced my key and lock cyclinder in my mustang. Now of course my theft system is active and I can't start the car. It will cost me 200 dollars to tow the car and 180 dollars to program new keys. I hate these dealer anto theft systems. Is there anyway to disable or bypass the pats system in my car. I know in chevy you can install resistors to match the ohm readings of the chips in the key i did that in my wifes camaro because the wire in the steering colum broke for the chip reader in the steering colum. I'm tired of the anti theft systems in the cars I'm going to look into a after matket alarm system but I will have to have a operating key to get a after market alarm so thats my pradicament what can I do is there anyway to bypass or disable the alarm? I will like to start my car without haveing to pay 400 dollars or even more. I posted this in v6 forum on accident. Please I need some help with this I cant start my car right now and I need it. oh and the reason I hate these anti theft systems is because a wire breaks or something fails then your car is locked and that sucks! comeon know one has any suggestions?

ok i been looking and saw a few things about flashing the system to disable the pats? I know that giving out any info about disabling the pats might be frowned upon because people might try and use to steal cars so if anyone can help me and don't want to post nothing you can PM me please I am stumped with this and need help

Walmat has the equipment to "Clone" your Model Year PATS key. Sooooo take the old key and the new key to Walmart. Use the old key to "clone" and then have the the key "cut" to the new key. This will give you a key with the old PATS code and the New key cylinder. All for Less than $30 bucks and no tow.

Much simplier than paying $350 or more for a handheld tuner. And the PATS system still works afterwards.

If you are really looking for the lowest tech solution, then tape the top of the old PATS key to your steering column. This is a trick used in some aftermarket remote start systems.

Here's some information on a possible DIY solution.

problem is I broke my key like I had said and my soon to be exwife has my other and she keeps saying she lost my other one so there is no way for me to program a new key cause u have to have both keys so im screwed. I want to either disable or disconnect the system altogether I do not like being dependent on it if a wire breaks or a transponder fails or the reader fails dont want to have to deal with it at all!

I was only given one set of keys when I bought my current 02 GT. When those were stolen, the only way for me to get new keys was to have the car towed to a Ford dealership and spend a bit over 200 bucks to have them make new ones. I asked around, and everyone told me "If you want a new key cut, you need two working ones first."

Now, if the big plastic end of your old broken key is still fine (where the transponder chip is located), you should be able to hold it against the steering column near the ignition cylinder while you start the car with the new key. The chips work by proximity, they don't actually have to be "in" the cylinder for the security to work.

ok i dont have my old key no more didnt think about keeping it. and no i dont have a diablo or sct handheld. how much are they and where can i get one? and what do you have to do to use it?

i just wish u can permanetly bypass the transponder systems like you can the chevy because the chevys use a resitor ohms but the ford uses transponders and it is up to a 6 number transponder code that can be a billion different codes wow!

find one cheap on here or thru craigs...prob 150-200 jus be sure its unlocked and not "married" to the owners car....if didnt wanna risk it, there about 350 new and brothers, late model resto, american muscle, etc., all carry them...make sure they put the custom file on it to disable the pats

2vnotch i appreciate ur help on this. Can i ask a question so you get the tuner and get the program for it which would be what program? then you would have the tuner program the pcm to disable the pats?

No prob...I had this same prob on my 88 coupe after i swapped it all over...I bought the tuner which comes with preset tunes on it, 87, 89, and 91 octane tunes...I wanted the extra hp and new i would be adding more parts down the road and would want full hp benefits off custom tunes after adding part after part...long story short, I hooked the handheld up, went thru the directions (theyr displayed on handheld), it said tune was installed but my car wouldnt start...it then dawned on me newer cars have the pats, so i took it to my local dealer and he changed all the parameters to meet my needs (according to my current boltons) and turned it off...took it home followed the prompts and fired er right up! :D If u tell them they can do all this at time of purchase

No whomever u buy ur tuner from disables it....Ford will have nothing to do with it for "liability" reasons...If u buy a used one, u buy this $40 interface equipment (so custom tune files can be emailed to you, then downloaded on to the handheld), call american muscle or some1 alike, tell em what boltons, gears, etc., u have (might as well benefit from a custom tune while ur at it) and tell em to disable the pats...Like i said used ur lookin 150-200 and 40 for the interface equipment.....new i think is 300-350 and u wont need the interface, whatever dealer u choose can do it from their end, box it up, and ship it to you....I know it sounds hard but its plug and play!

No prob...Mayb ur only hope since FORD wont touch em! MAKE SURE the used one has been uninstalled from the car it was used on or has been "unlocked" by a dealer or it will not work on your car because they become "married" to the computer and wont work on others, otherwise, ur lookin at 100-125 to have it unlocked yourself....same goes for if u want to resale it.....

I have a 99 gt and have looked everywhere possible for a wiring diagram for the pats system. I don’t have the 4 pin plugs that the harness’s come with can anyone look and see what color goes to what color please?
