Finally tired of the heel toe crap I have to do, in order to stop the car with power brakes. I am going to put discs in the rear next winter, and the current setup just isn't cutting it with a vacuum canister. Any recommendations or preferences, I was just going to get the summit one and hide it somewhere.

Also am I the only one who hates the new search function??

I've got it in the trunk along with a canister. I don't pull any vacuum from the motor. It is kind of loud, but they all are loud. I can't hear it with the car running (but my car is loud). It is nice having power brakes with the engine off. After one application it comes on, but is able to keep up with city driving. I'm not sure about roundy round racing, but fits my needs for drag racing.

Here's a suggestion that goes around your issue to get to your goal. Get a set of Rhodes lifters. Your vacuum will increase 2" or more, your idle will get smoother, you'll get more torque at low rpm, and you'll still be running that hot cam profile at higher rpm.

another option would be to pull the engine driven vacuum pump from a ford or international diesel pick up from the mid 80s. you might have to build or modify a bracket to make it work on your engine.

One other option would be to convert to manual, non vacuum assist master cylinder and be done with it. I have front disc/rear drum with a 74 Maverick manual brake master cylinder with a 10 lb residual valve plumbed into the rear line and they work great.
My $.02,
Gene

I have thought about just going manual brakes. Didn't know how well they work with my planned 4 wheel disc brakes. I already spent $500 on vertical link roller lifters so I don't want to change them, an extra 2" of vacuum only puts me at 9" anyway. Figured $300 to just plumb one of those puppies in and be done with it would be an easy fix.

If you don't mind the noise and having the plumbing I'd say it is worth it. I like the power assist, but never tried manual with 4 wheel disc. I would keep your canister in series.

Have a look at the volvo s40-s90 vacuum pumps. They're quieter and more compact than most aftermarket electrics, and they can also come with a tricky little vacuum swithc that integrates a checkvalve and T piece so that the engine pulls what vaccuum it can, and then the vacuum pump adds on top of that. They can be had for about $100-150 on ebay.

You will want to verify your booster is not leaking though. If your booster is leaking a vacuum pump will run all the time and end up fried.
