Hello everyone. I am a 2012 black/saddle 5.0 mustang owner. I purchased the car in June of this past year and have accumulated roughly 10,700 miles on it. As i was driving one night with me and my brother, i began to hear a knock coming from the engine. Knowing that my car was still under warranty and that this was likely a serious issue, i pulled my car into a friends nearby driveway (half a mile away) and parked it for the night.

The next day my brother got the car towed to the dealership, where they informed me the car was 3 quarts low on oil! I was unable to attend the dealership as i fell very sick at night. The car had received an oil change at 5,000 miles under the service plan, and i had already returned to a different dealership to receive my second one. At roughly 10,000 miles, they told me that my service plan did not cover another oil change until 15,000 miles, and that my car did not require one at the time. As an enthusiast i planned on changing the oil on my own very soon, but sadly this engine malfunction got in the way first.

The dealership which i brought the car to is Scarsdale Ford, and thusfar they have been very helpful. They told me that the malfunction came from cylinder 7, and the car is very close to throwing a rod. Just yesterday (after having the car for almost 2 weeks) they told me that Ford OK'd the full replacement of the motor under warranty (thank god) and will NOT be just fixing it (a relief for me). The dealer is being very lenient with a loaner car, as my warranty only covers it for 10 days. Overall i am satisfied thus far, but the installation of the engine has yet to occur. They said they expect 1 week to receive the motor, then 2 days for install, so i will keep everyone updated. Just figured i'd put my story out there and hear if there was anyone else with issues? Only mod was a Roush axle-back (no tune) that they said they did not care about. However, if i had a tune, my warranty would have been voided (or so the dealer claims).

I lost an engine in my GTO with ~5000 miles on the odometer do to an oil pump failure (#7 rod bearing failed oddly enough). They took car of it under warranty as well and were pretty cool about it. Didnt require a rental car thankfully. Good to hear Ford is taking care of it for you even though you were negligent in checking your oil monthly per the manual /nag.

Wow, that's quite a shocker. Did they say that being 3 quarts low was the reason for the failure? I haven't heard of many of the new Coyote engines failing like that. Might be some kind of an internal oiling failure to the rod bearings. It's good you're getting a complete replacement. Might have been a flaw in some of the crankshaft oil galleys. Good luck.

Nice to know everything worked out. Dont know how often you get on your ride hard, but its a good idea to check ur oil to be on the safe side. Ive heard when u run hard there always a chance of oil consumption.

Maybe the OP should have checked their oil -- but there is no way that the engine "used" 3 quarts of oil in 6k miles. Likely the dealer who did the oil change screwed up and underfilled it....by 3 quarts!!!!!!

Even if it did use that much oil in 6k miles, there is a major engine issue anyways.

That is why Ford is covering it....its either their dealer's mistake or a bad engine anyways.

This is one reason why I do not trust dealers. as far as I can throw them.

SO many stories to relate to that -- one is I had a almost new Dodge Durango....took it in for dealer service and provided synthetic oil and gear lubes for them to use in the change. I caught the tech putting ENGINE OIL in the rear diff! He had already done the oil change and used plain oil. I was IRATE. That was several years ago.

Last night, I rolled my new (to me) used motorcycle into the garage and proceeded to pop the air cleaner housing to see if I had a K&N or not in it (bike is slightly modified with pipes and has 1800 miles)........imagine my surprise when I found a dead mouse and tons of packing material completely filling the airbox.

This was AFTER the dealer told me "We checked the bike out thoroughly and everything is ready for the road!"

Uh huh.

Needless to say I will be checking everything myself. "again".

...

I wont argue that Ford should cover it, only that the responsibility to ensure the vehicle has the correct amount of oil in it belongs to the owner of said vehicle. We've become a society that is so quick to blame somebody else (and I'm not aiming this at the original poster, just in general) for everything these days.
