Question about Upper Intake Bolts

Hey Guys,

I had to pull my upper intake off a few weeks back because the vacuum line underneath it just fell apart. Got everything apart and fixed without worries. When I went to put the upper back on, the outer bolts wouldn't snug down. I pulled them back out, and they look like they may have had some JB weld on the ends at one time. I didn't notice this when I took them out. The gasket is in good shape, the middle bolts were in good shape, and I was in a hurry, so I snugged it down with the two middle bolts. My intake is the Ford Racing version of the 94-95 Cobra Intake. I am wondering if I could get a couple of bolts that are 1/2 inch longer and get into some fresh threads or am I going to have to pull it back off and tap the holes? What I do not want to do is crack the lower. Could I try a little JB Weld? If that is what it is, it held it together without issue for 7 years (I didn't do the intake install, I bought it off the bay and had a shop install it. They are now out of business. Might know why!). It seems to be running fine except that I have developed a strange little hiccup when it is cold (the temp has dropped 'round here lately). I do not know if this is related to the loose outer bolts or not. I cleaned the MAF last night, it was pretty filthy, and that seemed to help some this morning. I checked the grounds on the engine while I was under it last weekend, they were fine, and I am going to check the ground for the Computer tonight when I get home. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree with the helicoil method. You can do that with the lower still on the car. Just stuff some rags in the ports to keep the metal shavings out.

If they are stripped I wouldn't put anything like JB Weld, Epoxy, etc in those holes. I agree, Helicoil them and they'll be good as new. Aluminum parts are tricky especially intakes. They require very light torque 12-18lbs. Any more than that and it's stripped.

Thanks guys. Kinda what I was thinking. I hadn't planned on the JB unless everyone on here had the exact same problem and it worked wonders. Any idea if I might have a little more vacant space in there for a slightly longer bolt? I ordered the correct 94/95 Cobra Bolt kit from Ford 7 years ago when I had this done. It only came with two bolts for the middle becuase they were supposedly longer than the original ones. Thanks for all the help
