What is the whine auto transmissions make at wot in the high rpm range (5-6k) when they are about to shift? I've heard some autos that do this some that do not. Here is an example

Might not be the transmission. Any accessory going bad on the front of the engine can whine... such as the PS pump, alternator, waterpump, etc.
From my experience, Power-steering pumps and Water-pumps usually squeal, b/c of bearings losing there outer coating through wear and tear. But, rack and pinion will whine especially if you turn the wheel all of the way to the left and to right.

O.p. check your Transmission's fluid level and keep track on hard shifting is about all you can do. Unless you can tear apart you cars auto-transmission and put it back yourself.

Honestly, it sounds as if your Auto is gonna give sometime in the very near future. Sounds as if the pinions and such gears are grinding ever so lightly, just enough to indicate wear. So, wide-open throttle pulls are not good your auto as we speak especially if it only does that at such time.

Time for an Auto rebuild.

Sounds logical, but I would have figured it would have kicked the bucket by now. Bought the car at 55k miles has almost 73k now(drive it everyday) so i've done alot of wot pulls and such and it has always made that noise at high rpm. I do check the fluid often and it has no bad signs (doesn't smell and is redish/pink). I find alot of auto mustangs on youtube that make the same noise as far as I can tell.

If it was an accessory I would hear it at times other then high rpm at wot right?

Some car's transmission can have a quirk or two and last a very long time with regular fluid changes, and some never have any issues and quick all of a sudden.

All I'm saying really is, don't be surprised when the auto does give, wish my car's transmission gave me a warning.

Thanks for your help, hopefully If I take care it will last awhile longer. Heard the 4r75w is a stout tranny. I have never been able to find an answer as to why so many autos make this noise. Although it could very well be grinding, and about to die on me lol.
