2000 Explorer 5.0 block vs. other 5.0 blocks

The Explorer cam is ground to produce more power and torque at lower RPM. Sounds good, till you realize it also falls off much sooner in the power band as well. Great for pulling a trailer....not so good for going fast. Because of it's tamer profiles, the Explorer engine also utilizes weaker valve springs. Go with the HO cam, or better and you'll overpower those springs in a hurry.
 
I will give another thumbs up for the trickflow spring set, I have been running them for 20k and no issues. On another note, I would not sweat the hyper pistons, I've been boosting on them for 20k and not a light 20k either.
I did however at one time spend 3k on a all forged assembly and then the block broke ruining my uber expensive rotating assembly. Last time I will ever spend any money on a rotating assembly for a stock block 302.
 
I will second 79'293stang, I ran 10lbs on hypers for a few years prior to removing the turbo for another car. It was tuned conservatively, but I ran it hard. Hyper pistons tend to get a bad rap due to the fact that the do poorly with detonation. No piston really does, but hyper pistons can actually reach a resonant frequency that causes them to shatter.
 
Sorry about the late start on the comment thread. I really recommend the trick flow kit. So far everything has been good valve spring wise. It also comes with everything that you need to do the install including new valve seals. If you price it out, there isn't a better deal on this stuff either. All you need outside of their kit is a valve spring compressor. Some string/rope to hold the valves up and that is pretty much it.
 
I can do the search, but anyone know what blocks are all the same off top. Like 90-94? Compression is the same? If im going this route, i should just get this block, and port these heads gt40p's vs. these E7's also. Well... Ima do my top end on this block, then if still burning oil (it will be), gonna junkyard explorer block it. And i wont feel bad for beating the living hell out of it. After i break this one. lol It prob won't break less i ultra dog it trying to break it. But the oil consumption is annoying, lack of compression on a cylinder or 2, power robbing.
