Weird Noise coming from engine bay

All,

I have a noise that sounds like it may be a mis-fire or something banging in the engine bay area. The problem is that I cannot make it happen when the car is in park. I can hit the throttle and it revs and sounds fine.

If I am moving and put it under a slight load (around 1500-1800 RPM) I can hear it. It seams to go away any higher than that.

I tried brake torquing to see if I can get it to happen, and that only results in tires spinning with no noise.

Any suggestions to find out where this is coming from and identify how to fix it?

I did have a problem where I didn't tighten my distributor enough and it adjusted itself out of time, but I had this fixed prior to hearing this noise. I have the timing set at 13.

I haven't rechecked the timing since I heard the noise, but will do that later.

This is my 95 GT with an Explorer engine (just finished the swap a while back).

Thanks,

Keith

Interesting thought. I will look into that. I went thru and all the plug wires seem to be on correctly. I haven't tried taking off the wires and putting them back on. The cracked plug is definitely something I should look into. Although all the plugs were new when I put the engine in, there is always that possibility.

You could get someone to torque it slightly without moving the car in a darkened area so that you can see the spark jump or spray some water (with salt added) from a pump/mist bottle around the plug wire connections, this makes for a good ground for stray electricity, then you'll know what kind of condition the tune up parts are in, be careful not to run your car into a wall or worse.
