130 miles on one tank of gas

Stay out of the throttle and stop shifting at 6,ooo rpm.

Seriously, if you bought a Mustang for MPG you'll be disappointed.

Give it a tune up, clean the MAF, drop in K&N Filter, etc. Should give you a boost in MPG.

Umm I have been driving the car normally (shifting around 2,000 to 3,000 rpm) and as for mpg the car is listed for 15 to 16 mpg with a 15 gallon take. That would mean the car should get 225 to 240 miles a tank and I am getting almost half that which tells me there is a problem.

I was planning on doing a tune up this month but I was not sure if there might be a specific problem as to why I was only seeing 130 miles on a tank of gas.

Multiple reasons. Most common and overlooked is that you have brakes that are dragging. Make sure your calipers are free and the slides are not frozen. Check the rear brakes and install a new hardware kit. Do a proper brake bleeding, make sure your hoses are in good condition and that all wheels move freely when the car is jacked up.

If you have a check engine light, you need to pull codes and find out what is going on. Make sure you check engine light is functional and has not been disabled or burned out by a previous owner. Sometimes there are codes without a check engine light, so double check that as well.

Clogged catalytic converters can also cause poor fuel mileage, as well as a poor state of tune. As stated above, check the plugs, wires, and distributor cap and rotor for excessive wear. Change dirty air and fuel filters, and make sure the tires are properly inflated.

Lastly, double check that your odometer is accurate against mile markers.

Bad O2 sensors will make your gas mileage take a dive but check other simple things first like dizzy cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, and air/fuel filters. Clogged cats will cause poor performance as well as poor gas mileage.
