First off I just wanted to say hey everybody! Like the title says I'm new to the forums and new to Mustangs in general. I've been mostly into the German automotive scene for years and dabbled in the Japanese scene as well but I've never went American. That all changed with the redesign of the Mustang! I'm loving the looks and the power that comes along with it and I'm looking to buy a 2013 Mustang GT this summer.

The point of this tread is to post up a few Mustang n00b questions I've had about how to mod the 5.0. I'm looking to go with an cat-back exhaust and chip straight away, but after that the questions begin. I'm thinking of doing an CAI, BOSS 302 intake manifold, and throttle bodies. Which leads me to my first question:

1. If I do go with the CAI, intake manifold and throttle bodies I notice a lot of the supercharger kits come with their own components to replace the above. Are there any good supercharger kits out there which will allow me to run those parts for a while and still be able to use them when I decide to upgrade to a supercharger? What are the best brands to buy superchargers from? By the way i'm looking at the kits that make ~650hp (like the Ford Racing 624hp kit)

2. I'm looking at the aftermarket throttle body sizes and i'm thinking of going with the 90mm for the N/A mods to begin with. After that can I reuse the 90mm throttle bodies with the supercharger kit or will those be not compatible, or be too small/large?

3. Are there any other supporting mods I will need (such as clutch, drive shaft, etc) to run the N/A power and then step it up to the supercharger kit? This is going to be a spirited daily driver for the most part.

1) Positive displacement blowers will replace the intake and throttle body. Centrifugal blowers will not. You need to decide which one you are going with. If going PD, don't bother with the Boss intake nor larger throttle body. If going centrifugal, the intake and T/B would be able to be used again and further improve your output from the supercharger. FMS, Kenny Bell, Edelbrock, Roush all offer PD blowers. Do some research and pick one. Vortech, Paxton and Procharger and the big names for centrifugal. Again, do some research on these and pick.

2) Accufab and FMS have larger throttle bodies so you have choices. Again, this option is mute if you are going to go with a PD blower. Not sure how big the opening is on the stock intake.

3) N/A you should be fine. With the blower on, you should also be fine...as long as you drive accordingly. Anyone can grenade the stock transmission/clutch at stock power levels if they drive like idiots. An upgraded clutch might be in the near future when you cross over into 600+ hp levels. Driveshaft is up to you.

The exhaust mods you mention should be fine regardless of what else you do and today, it is no longer chips - its a tuner that you plug in and download tunes either supplied by vendor (ie. canned tune) or on the dyno (dyno tune). SCT handheld tuner is one brand.

Hope this helps.

That did help, thanks for the response JKidd! One question for you though, why should I not go with a larger throttle body if I get a PD blower? Would the PD blower still use the stock intake? Also, what are the best brands to look at for both PD and centrifugal superchargers? Are all the brands you mentioned the best ones or do some make a better product then others?
Thanks!

PD blowers replace the entire intake. They also have throttle bodies with a different shape (oval). The ones I listed are tried and true for Mustangs. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Some are more expensive, some kits come with more, some require more work and some make different levels of power. This is where YOU need to do the research based on your own criteria. First step would be to decide between positive displacement vs. centrifugal and go from there. Sounds like some fun research if you ask me! ;)
