$700, 351W worth doing?

351 will give you room to grow, but like stated above you wont be able to do it for 700 bucks. My vote is for bolt ons you may not have already. Electric fan U/D pullies, Gears, aluminum D/S etc. Being on a budget sucks I know, when all my buddies have 1000 of $ into their cars and pay someone else to do the work, and I have to do my own with the little bit of cash I have lying around.

:rlaugh: You've done this too???!!!
Hasn't everyone?

When I was running the Starion that had the 438w in it, it had a plate and a fogger. I took two bottles in the car, and had 4 in reserve. So to say that I was going through some nitrous was an understatement. So, to answer your question:
Hell yeah I did it. Me and several of my friends were " refill stations" for the " last minute Larry's" that waited too long to get Supershops to fill their junk up on Saturday afternoon.

I had the 357 with gt40 heads, gt40 intake, alphabet cam, long tubes....made 333ft/lbs @ 1800rpms but it was essentially a super heavy 302!
only made 275rwhp @ 5400 rpms on a mustang dyno.....the motor ran out of intake, cam, and heads, which is why we shut the run down @ 5400
You would like the torque on the street, but thats about it...

Something else worth mentioning about nitrous is that it is illegal to even have it hooked up on the street in some states.

302 parts make 302 power!

JEEZ! If I was as "out of the loop" as you guys, I would have to sell my junk. An hour's drive to get my bottle refilled? Driving An hour in Birmingham gets you to Montgomery. Call Airgas,...( or whoever does your welding gas exchange) and get an exchange acct set up for a 50 LB bottle of industrial grade N2O. If you don't have a truck for the monthly (or less) trip to have the 50lb er exchanged, get your buddies or Uncle Ernies truck instead.

Then go to a salvage/used appliance dealer and get a little upright freezer. On your way back from Crazy Elmos' Used appliances, stop off at Walmart, or Office depot and get a freight scale rated for at least 25 lbs. Get a 10' long -4 line for the 50lb Master bottle and you got your very own N20 refill station.....................................In Your Garage.
(Hopefully it's closer than 45 miles):nice:

I LOVE nitrous, everyone is against it, until they ride in one or get a kit.

Plus a 351 with iron heads is bull:poo:, no rpm at all, not really alot of torque either. that thing would pull to 5k and flatline like a fat woman on the treadmill.

It took 135 bottles of nitrous to take down my buddies stock 5.0 at 175-225hp kits on twin nozzles.

pull 2 degrees out of your base timing, gap some autolite 24's at .030 and spray the :poo: out of it.

If it even gets to 5000! I always crack up when I see 351 cars that run 12s and 13s because they have junk top end parts.

Every one bad mouths that **** till the first time the feel that **** hit!

Hah, nitrous is neat, but I still see it as the least practical power adder UNLESS you're talking something that is 99% track duty. Every time I've ever been in a nitrous car, either- 1. I feel guilty asking them to spray it because I know that's like asking them to light a couple bucks on fire or 2. their bottle is empty and there's no fun to be had.

Or 3. they broke something the last time they sprayed it and it's in the garage on jack stands hahahaha.

There's a set of Vic jr.s on Corral for $1075 shipped. That with a OTC comp cam and a PP spyder intake would be a sweet 351 budget build. That's a $1500 top end, and say another $500 for injectors, TB, and MAF (all used of course). That wouldn't be a decent motor? I understand you say iron heads above. Is airflow the problem or just too much rotating mass?

It's always inferior induction to feed the additional displacement that has some "budget" build 351 W guys shaking their heads, because they cant understand how the 5.0 w/ similar junk just beat their ass.

Yep. To really take full advantage of the big W, you have to feed the thing. Another point to consider is the additional rotating mass of the W, something that a lot of people overlook. A similarly equipped 347 will outperform a 351 when using the exact same top end parts.
