Might sell the '86 for an '04 Cobra

Yeah same here. My Cobra had a little lift. My 91 doesn't lift at all (and it's supposed to be making 400hp :O_o:).

Hey 95, are those rims 19" or 18"?
Rims are 19". They are a part of a "premium appearance package" that came on the car. I did my first donuts yesterday, and then it hit me how expensive the tires would be to replace. Traction control turned back on! Oh guys, I will be posting some misc 5.0 parts in the classifieds if you are wanting to take a look. Dont need the stuff anymore. Its mostly engine type stuff, but a little of this and that too, if you want to check it out. Im not looking to get millions as much as I just want to clear out my garage, so it will all be priced pretty well.

Im on the fence for the electric cut outs. It would be cool to open it up a bit, then put it back to stock exhaust at the press of a button, but I have found that the stock exhaust on these new cars is completely retarded. Its starts with decent headers, down into the cats followed by a short section of 3" pipe. Then that transitions to a pre-mid-pipe that measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter (best place to add the cutouts as far as fit), which then connects to a 2 1/2 H-pipe. That 2 1/2 pipe then has resonators (with a 2" inside diameter), which dumps out to the 2 1/2 inch pipe to the mufflers. The 2 1/4" cut outs cost $450, plus I have to get them welded in. For that price, I can damn near buy a complete Magnaflow cat back... That defeats the "being able to be loud and quiet" point, but it also saves 30 pounds off the stock exhaust, plus the weight of the cut outs... What would you guys do? Be different, or be logical?

The tires/wheels are usually pretty cheap on CL. I have bought many sets of like new tires and wheels from late model stangs for my Grand Marquis for next to nothing. the wheels/tires on your new 5.0 are running anywhere from 250-600 for a new take off set on CL. Find another set for your winter wheels ect.

Thanks for the info. This young gal wont be driven in the Iowa winter, but I could use some spare tires when I decide I want to go have some fun.

So I tried something today, and learned really quick the cut outs will sound like ass. I took off my mufflers to see what the stock exhaust sounded like with a "muffler delete," like some people do. It sounds like a POS 80's chevy pick up with glass packs when you get above 2500 rpms. Down low, and idle is fine, but its raspy as hell when you rev it up. Im gonna spend the big bucks for a nice sounding exhaust, thats all settled now. That being said, anyone want the new Magnaflow catback I bought for my '86?

I'll find out real quick myself. I have a Pypes "Pype Bomb" axle back showing up tomorrow with some other parts.

See, that right there is why I can't understand people when they say "I don't want a high RPM motor, torque down low, blah blah blah." As soon as you drive a high RPM car, you realize that you've been missing out your whole life, haha. Hearing/feeling a V8 screaming above 6500 RPM is spooge-tastic.
The first couple of times I went wot in a new 5.0 I kept lifting the throttle prematurely. I just assumed the power would drop off (mental conditioning over the years). When I decided to stay in it it was like "Whoooa". While it doesn't have that immediate torque at low rpms it still has a very broad powerband. Once it gets going it just keeps on pulling. I had to remind myself that I was actually driving a bone stock automatic Mustang.

I was doing the same thing with mine. Im just getting used to feeling safe revving it so high.

Post up a vid for me. I hope the mufflers somehow tune down the raspiness for you.

Edit: After listening to this sound clip, Im starting to wonder if having that extra few feet of pipe after the resonators makes a big difference. I just drove around the block without mufflers...

I think it does. I'll make a video of the before and after once I get them installed. I found this video a couple weeks ago of a muffler delete, and thought it sounded pretty good.
