Thoughts for 2015

I hope they keep the same exterior theme. I mean, I love the bulge above the rear wheel and on the hood. However, I'd like to see the rest get smaller. The Mustang is more a muscle car than a sports car, so I'd like to see the body (mainly the rear end) get smaller. I'd compromise with just not having such a low rear bumper. Same Big Engine! Even smaller body. I wouldn't mind seeing less fake scoops too. Maybe only optioning FUNCTIONAL scoops? The only thing I like about the '13 hood is that the vents are functional.

Ya my cali special has fake scoops...I hate it. eventually I want to make them functional. get rid of te hood for a heat extractor XD

I don't necessarily think that moving away from the "classic styling" is a bad thing. After all....the most popular Mustang ever built was the “black sheep of the family” Fox body. Not only did it last 15-years basically unchanged, but it boasted none of the classic cues of the models before, or after it. It just makes me nervous when I hear "European styling". There have been a lot of really nice cars designed across the pond, but there have been a lot of really not so nice ones built either. And I’ve never looked at any of them and said....man, I wish the Mustang looked like that. I just hope they don’t go too drastic with the changes, to the point that it doesn’t resemble a Mustang of any sort at all.

Hate to break it to you, but when the Fox came out, everyone GUSHED over all of the EUROPEAN STYLING of the car. Which got even MORE European Styling on the SVO Mustangs.

Also at the end of your paragraph, you contradict what you said at the beginning. The Fox looked nothing like it, but was still popular (albeit with European Styling); and you hope the new one is not like this.

It could be the return of the Fox.

I expect the looks of a sleek supercar (Think Newer vettes/ Aston Martin) with very capable powertrain/handling an a working mans price. The front end of a mustang catches more bugs than a F-350 lol. Especially the 05-10. Basically they will move forward from the 94-98 styling like the boxy/ squarish 99+ years never happened. I may be a lil biased being a 95 mustang owner but the 99-04 mustangs look like they should have came before the 94-98 styling.

The SVO was built to resemble and compete with the Euro trash 4-years into the Fox Mustang run.....which it did quite well, as it was also one of the ugliest Mustangs in recent memory. The Fox Mustang was built on a cookie cutter chassis, with low dollar production and a small car theme to keep the smog police and the bean counters that ruined the Muscle Car era from the 60's, from ruining the 80's like they did the 70's. We were lucky enough to get aggressive styling to help us forget the ugly mess that was the Mustang II.

Remember what your other alternatives were in the late 70’s/early-80’s. You got a Pinto, a Fairmont, a Grenada and if you were really lucky, an EXP. No, if you wanted a hot car during that time period and you wanted it to have a blue oval in the grill, you got one choice and one choice only (unless you count it's counterpart the Mercury Crapi). It was popular, because there it was all there was.

It got another boost again in '82 when Ford capitalized on the "Boss" moniker, then again in the mid-80's with the introduction of EFI and doors to the aftermarket quickly began to open and finally for the last time in the late-80's with the "aero" facelift. Same old car, great recycling strategy by Ford. :nice:

As much as I'd love to agree with you that it's styling is why it has gained so much popularity over the years, I believe it was its low production cost, the versatility of the Fox chassis itself and it's over all high dollar value that carried it as long as it did.

People gushed over the styling because of how it looked compared to the car it replaced, the Mustang II. I won't knocked the II it sold like crazy and kept the brand alive during the mid 70s . Lets be real however the Mustang II served it's purpose but as far as Mustangs go it was ugly. It really wasn't to hard to design a car that was better looking . The Fox's popularity didn't come from its styling, it was due to the 5.0 H.O. and the fact that it was significantly less expensive then its competition. Now Ford is replacing a very popular version of the car , a version that even non-fans concede is a very good looking car. This is not going to be easy We know that the performance of the new Mustang is going to be great. Ford has the chance to do something spectacular with the styling , lets hope they don't blow it.

I wasn't saying the styling was the only reason for it's popularity; but it did play a part. Some people do like the way the Fox looks. Also, some people prefer the Four Eyes and vice versa.

Excerpts about the 1979 Mustang:
Reflecting a European design influence, the nose, grille, and raked windshield had a cleaner, more aerodynamic look and feel.

In fact, this curiously fresh pony car, with its snappy European looks, bore no resemblance to any previous Mustang.

Early versions of the Fox-based Mustang (design exercises) showed a squarish body with a jutting front-end section and tightly snipped rear. As further designs were carried out, the new Fox Mustang took on a sleeker European look. Ford produced two show cars, the RSX and IMSA, that pushed the limits of the Fox chassis.

Styled by Ghia of Italy, the RSX show car had a distinct European design, with more attention to aerodynamics for both efficiency and looks. This would be the focus for the next generation of Mustangs.

Also take a look at the 2005 Mustang. Then take a look at the Mustang Giugiaro Concept; built by the Italian coachbuilder Giugiaro. Then tell me you don't see any influence from this car in the 2010+ Mustangs (hint: there are a few).

^ The obvious influences of the Giugiaro concept are the glass roof , the shape of the grill, the up swept quarter panel shoulders and the concave panel between the tail-lamps. However all except the glass roof are cues from the 60s Mustangs. I'm not knocking the look of the Fox Mustangs,I am one of those who like the styling ,I have owned 4 of them. I'm just saying that when Ford designed the Fox it was easier to come up with a look that was superior to the predecessor then it will be now- because now the bar is higher.
