Alright another question from me guys lol. I know it is a newb question but I want to ask this specifically because I couldn't find a straight answer in the search.

I was wondering with full bolt ons, will a 2v GT run a decent 13 second time on the quarter mile? Things like CAI, TB, plenum, U/D pullies, full exhaust, and some suspension work like upper and lower control arms, sub frame connectors?

I'm just curious because I know that doing minor bolt ons really doesn't seem to do much for our cars but I was wondering what if someone had a Mustang that had almost every bolt on part on their car and what are the results... I know the common answer is to just save your money and buy a super charger or get nitrous but I know this is dumb but I have that feeling of wanting to do something to the car every month instead of just saving for a year lol, I know patience is a virtue...:nono:

Guess I feel that way because my buddy with a 1995 Mustang automatic 5.0 is doing heads an cam swap on it this summer, and I know my days of beating him are numbered... He already has 4.10's, cold air intake, and full exhaust and its a drivers race from a stop between us but I usually am able to pull 2 or so cars on him if I launch right btw this is in Mexico of course.. Im just curious so I was wondering if a fully bolt on 2v GT will benefit much at all..


Btw I know its the most logical thing to set aside 300 bucks a month and just save up to get a supercharger..

If you are sure you will go forced induction via supercharger ,I would concentrate on exhaust. If you put more air in you got to get it out. Then suspension gotta put it to the ground. Think of an engine as an air pump. I got a buddy at work that put 6 grand in a Mach 1 and made 348rwhp NA . His intake seems to be the bottleneck now. He can get more air out than in iguess

If you are content with mid to low 13's than yes full bolt ons with long tubes should get you there! Add cams in to the mix and you should be knocking on the 12 second door. With practice of course :)

I would like to go supercharged route, but I'm thinking by the time I have the money after college my car is going to have a lot of mileage on it... Its at 105k right now and I'm guessing in 2-3 years when I graduate the car will be at about 125-135,000 miles on it at the rate I drive it... I'm just worried that adding a supercharger on a high mileage car is just asking for trouble... Of course if I do get a supercharger I would be fairly content with 350hp car and able to run high 12's at the track. I wouldn't add more than 6-8lbs of boost on the stock bottom end to make super high hp numbers, because of the stock motors limitations and mileage... Also I tend to take good care of it so if I keep up the maintenance maybe it wont be so bad with the mileage..

To be honest I feel that a DD 13 sec car is still quick imo, nowadays most cars from the factory run 13's easy and I would like my car to keep up with most newer cars. I will crunch all the numbers on the prices of all the bolt on parts that I would buy I guess and compare to the supercharger to get an idea of how much $ its going to take... I did look into the heads and cams option but its at about 3,000 bucks for them...:eek:
Still I hate having this feeling of wanting to doing all bolt ons even though I know that the payoff is not enough but for some reason I want to try it out and see for myself lol...

On another forum I am on, one of the members had bolt on 2v GT and got it to run 13.5's with a good set of drag tires or slicks...
What he had for mods were
-Mac Prochamber
-Magnaflow magnapack catback
-BBK CAI
-Stack Racing throttle body and plenum
-SCT Bama tunes
- MGW Short throw shifter

Which I thought was decent for a n/a 2v... Mine right now I ran a 14.2 but I feel with more practice on my launches I can get into the 13s...

Kinda driving me crazy lol. I guess I should just not go to car meets or the track to not get the modding bug and save the $ lol..
 
Years ago 5.0 Mustang Magazine took a bone stock 03 GT 5-speed and ran a 13.7 with the only two changes from how you would drive it on the street. They lowered the pressure in the rear tires and loosened (or they might have disconnected) the front sway bar links. Traction was the main limiting factor with the stock 245 Goodyear tires.

So yes, you can easily run mid 13's with a 2V GT, especially with bolt ons. The main X-factor is your capability to launch the car, so practice, practice, practice...or get drag radials.
 
I managed to run a 14.19 1/4 in my completly stock 04 gt. The car had 247 miles on it and the T sticker in the back window. I removed the spare and jack and walked it out of the hole. this was also at 10 a.m. The best I could do later that day was 14.3 and the temps went to high 90's. Unfortunatley I never got to run the car again.
 
Not bad, my buddy with only an o/r x pipe, K&N cold air intake on his 2000 GT was able to hit a 13.9 at the track. You just have to be really good on the launch, which I still suck at. I ran a 14.2 with the mods in my sig compared to him..:nonono:
 
When the tracks open around here next month, I will be taking the new 00. Mods are 4.10's,tri-ax, borla stinger, o/r prochamber, k&n cold air, and hopefully tuner by then. I don't think I will be spraying it the first couple times out, I want to shake down this car a bit and see how it does. Its been awhile since I have been to the track so I am curious how it will do. high 13's on a good launch is the plan. I may mess around and remove some weightand possibly the front sway bar after the first outing. If all goes well then the spray will follow.
 
4.30's, cams, longtubes, offroad h pipe, 75mm tb plenum, and a 28 inch drag radial 12.99 at 105 with a 1.9 60. Stock intake tube stock pulleys. the car is lowered with cc plates, but the very little lowering suspension i have is hurting my 60 more then helping, no weight distribution and stiff springs suck, i have stock control arms, and no subframes. use this knowledge as you will full bolt on 12's is extremely capable.
 
14.2 in mid-August in my stock '99 GT 5 speed, just lowered the rear tires to 24 psi. Track was greasy and it was my second time at a strip ever. Get better traction at stoplights than I did that day at the track.

Headers, mid-pipe, exhaust and tune will get you mid-13's on an otherwise stock 99-04.

You are starting with a stronger package than your friend's 5.0. You don't need heads and cams to stay faster if that's your plan.

Get full exhaust and it ought to be a good race.
