I just bought Projectors, I hope they don't look Terrible

So you guys probably know my thread, I just picked up another stang, a 98 vert. Lighting has to be changed, stock sucks. I thought about a retrofit but the stock lens isn't clear anyways so it would be a no go. I dislike halos and all the other little lights they put in the aftermarket ones. I hate the way they look, to be honest.

I saw these on auction on eBay and won them pretty cheap. I will not hook up any extra lights on this thing and I'm really hoping the smoke hides the projector well so you can't really see the interior shell of the light. Have any of you guys seen these? Do they look terrible or does the smoke look alright? Is the smoke pretty dark to hide seeing past the outer shell? ( I will be hooking up a 55w hid to them)

:ack: I hate those lights. Honestly, if you're going to do anything try and find some 94-98 Cobra lenses. They're clear and will look 10X better than those ugly ass projectors.

Christ man... should've spent the money on wheel spacers and lowering springs :nono:

Well ya, of course the cobra lenses would look better. They would also blind everyone I pass with an HID kit. The stock lighting is unacceptable for my wife. I gear hear her griping right now. From the pics, and it's hard to tell in pics I'm hoping it's a best of the worst type scenario. I just hope the tint is pretty dark, then they'd look fine.

If I did springs I'd do vogtlands and konis, and prob a full MM package. However this car is for my wife as well and I prefer for not to damage the cars over some of the extreme angles in and out of gas stations and normal driving here in the city in san diego. So, for now, the car stays bone stock except for a few small things, wheel spacers being one of them.

There isn't anything wrong with the factory housings as long as they aren't all fogged up. Put some good bulbs in there and if you are having problems seeing then you should probably go see an optometrist. Evey car I have ever been in with projectors was worse then stock. Let alone it looking like ass.

Plus they are tinted. That isn't going to help light output.

Personal experience.....

The Halo fell off inside the housing, I noticed heat fracturing on the plastic outside after less than 6 months. They don't like to fit and required cutting of my Header panel during install.

Later i bought 4 piece and they fit fine and plastic still looks good 1 1/2 years later.

This.

Factory Mustang headlights are actually fantastic. You probably bought a car with old bulbs and dirty yellowed lenses. Good luck with your tinted ebay lights :/ You'd be better off replacing your current fogged housings with factory pieces or at least cleaning them up and buying new bulbs.

Tell your wife to buy her own car. I just hate people using the "wife" excuse for their own vanity.

I mean this in the nicest way...... go **** yourself.

1. This is my wifes car, maybe you should have read the thread
2. Who the F are you to accuse me of anything? Come on down off your high horse buddy.
3. Again, go F yourself
4. The stock lights, in comparison to a projector with 55w HID'S, Lenses smoked or not will not even be close in light output. To even suggest so is absurd.
5. How can you tell me what my opinion, or my wife's is on something. Are we not entitled to our own opinions? You speak facts and only your opinion is the one that counts?

My wife thinks the stock lighting suck. And you know what, if these suck then I will take other steps, like modding a cobra a lens and putting a moshimoto glass projector in there for example. That's what people do to try to accomodate the needs of a specific driver, especially a wife that is cool enough to consider adding another mustang to the garage for me to care for.

Maybe you can take the approach with your girl when she has a complaint that your suggesting, of just brushing it off and saying it's fine, live with it. But not I sir. I am not a turd like you. I will try to do the best to make this car everything my wife is looking for, even if it's not what I would do.

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it..........LATER...

For $80ish it is worth a shot. I am not really into the light mods, but if it makes the wife happy/safer/happy go for it.

If I was to buy a vert it would be just like this one. Low miles, minimal mods, and just to drive around in.

I've currently gone with projectors on my '04, just standard projectors, no halo crap or anything and they are working out great. got them from AM. clear lenses as well. I have tinted lenses before and tried HID's and sylvania's... both sucked ass with a tinted lense that blocked light output. with a clear lense now in place the light output is much much better. anyways i like the projectors and when i switch over to hi-beams they are BRIGHT!

I mean, I'm being realistic here. They're not my cup of tea obviously. But A) I hope they don't look to bad and B) I hope they improve the lighting to where my wife is happy. If either one of those are not met then off they come.

Quite honestly I will probably end up mounting some glass moshimoto projectors descretely where they can't really be seen behind the lower bumper opening for her to flick on if she wants. But like the guy above just said. For $80 I'm going to give it a shot. We'll see...If not I can probably off them for what I bought them for anyways. :)

You honestly didn't expect to get some flak for buying those headlights?
Personally I honestly dislike projector headlights and HID's lights. It makes the car look ricer, and HID's are too blinding to people even if the car came equipped with them from the factory, like most late model Cadillac's, Lexus's and BMW's... I honestly don't understand how people think halogen bulbs are bad.. I am able to see pretty good with Sylvania super star ultras, and people have been driving with halogen bulbs forever and yet HID's are the must have so you can see and screw with everyone's vision on the road...

But it is y'alls car so take anything as I say as a grain of salt. Enjoy the car man it is beautiful and in great shape as I have seen in your other thread.

well.....the projectors just came in....now I just need the car. It's in chicago, I've decided to drive her out to CA from my parents house out there. I'm going to pick her up the 28th, very excited.

Anyways, the projectors are very good quality, especially compared to some others I've seen. I can see a fair amount of sealent around the shell and some attention to detail when they were assembled. I will probably run some extra silicone along the seams anyways but it doesn't look like it's needed. These things definately aren't my cup of tea but maybe they won't look too bad. More importantly I will be doing back to back comparo of the light output of the stockers vs these with 55w 6k hid's. I will post back up in 3-4 weeks when I have finally have the car to it's new home here in CA :)

well, I'm in chicago and I am with our new ride. She's better than I expected, sooooo clean. I'm going to hold off on a full detail and pics until I get her home to CA. I checked out the lights last night. After driving it during the day and just checking the car out I was very hopeful they would be sufficient. The lenses looked brand new and when turned on during the day they looked very bright and nice. So at night I opened the garage door next to an s2000. Turned on the projectors to the s2000 then killed them and turned on the stang lights. They were absolutely miserable. Honestly, like 1/3 light. And the s2k doens't even have fogs. I'm going to have to make a change.

I hate even suggesting this but do HID's in the standard houseing really accomplish that much? The stock lights just look soooo good on the car. I will try to fit smoke projectors when I get home but I know they won't even look half as nice. However if they get more light on the road and I don't have another alternative I guess I'll have to rock them. :(

Don't fret dude, get the Lights aimed w/in 20 paces. Should give you more focused light so you can see.

Some State laws require cars to have High Beams, so the cheap Ebay H.I.D. kits are now out of the question for me. You might wanna check out the Projector fog-light housing; now those do produce a lot of light.

W/those headlights if you do get the 100 dollar H.I.D. kits I'm not sure how you gonna convert that to the projector headlights. I'm sure there is a way.

I have the same Head Light housing my car and once I got the head lights aimed Voila. To each his/her own, I think those Projectors look really good w/o those Halo things that seem to be impossible to service.

Im sure you hav the money to have a pair of ebay headlights retrofitted with a real HID projector. Last time I check the guy on svtp charged $600 or so for everything.
I'm not sure what me having money has to do w/anything.

Only thing that needs to be done is replacing the light bulb with the HID light bulbs, minus having High beams. Besides anything can be done with the right know-how. For some reason your post sounds really bitter.

You say "the projector" like maybe there is one made for our cars? Am I reading that right?

I have thought about just a nice set of glass projectors buried up underneath so you can't see them unless they're on. I've done similair on some of my other cars and it's always turned out nice.

When I get the car home I will try on the smoke projectors and see how bad they truly look. And, if they are that bad I will probably outift the stock headlights and fogs with a bi xenon and standard hid kit respectively.

Anyone ever seen these in person. I know I could modify them to fit an HID. I'm just wondering if they are truly made for our cars and would bolt right in to the stock location. If they did that would be worth $40 to give it a shot.
