Stock. LOL No seriously being the mufflers are at the back end of these cars vs under the back seat like the old ones there is a much greater chance of drone. What might be tolerable to some may not be tolerable to you. My suggestion is wait a while, 11-13 exhaust is the same so while you're cruising around or at car shows and you hear an exhaust you like ask if the owner can take you for a ride and see if it's to your liking.

stop yelling. No seriously.

Are you an engineer?

I have Magnaflow mufflers on there and they don't drone at all. Quiet when you're cruising, loud when you need it.

I am getting a set of Roush axle backs as well, so I can change them out on the fly. This is my first Mustang, and the idea of being able to unbolt the mufflers is pretty cool.

Good luck!

Gt500 axle back without resonators is the best bang for your buck. There's plenty of YouTube videos out there. There's no drone or "rasp" and not obnoxious at all. Just the mustang growl that we all love. A catback system and x pipes will require adjustment to your tune and will add HP. Axlebacks is just for sound and no tune tweaking necessary.

I have the Roush axle back on my otherwise stock 5.0. They are pretty loud when you floor it, but there is no drone in the car while cruising. Even hauling ass, you hardly hear it in the car if the windows are up. Everyone within a mile outside hears it though... I would go for the GT500 axleback based on what you are asking for. They sound quite a bit quieter, and there is no drone with them as well.

Save yourself some time and money...go to any exhaust shop and have them cut off the factory mufflers and weld straight pipes out to tips out the back end. It sounds great at regular driving and really great when you get on it. It cost me around $200 for everything out the door. Its on my wifes 2010 GT and she loves it!!

OK, being as I work on these cars for a living I have seen the gamut of aftermarket/modified exhaust systems out there. I am old school and believe a high performance engine makes all the music of it's own without the need of over amplification by ridiculously loud mufflers. The first 05 and newer Stang that I drove that I truly felt had an awesome well balanced sound was a new Boss 302 with aftermarket discs installed. It's my understanding you can now buy the boss exhaust for a GT.

I have heard many cars with SLP loudmouth's on them or had muffler deletes on them. In my opinion these cars sound like sh*t! They sound just like any old car you'd imagine with rotted out/falling off mufflers - cheap & crappy. The furthest thing from what the O.P. asked about. In my opinion there is absolutely nothing that makes these cars sound worse! Just plain cheap if you ask me.

Well, I have no idea what cars you work on for a living, but you have no idea what you are talking about on this topic. We looked at many different exhausts for my wifes Stang, the one that sounded great, and wasnt a 700 Borla or Bassani system, was the muffler delete system. The converters on the Mustangs have enough baffling if you will, that taking the mufflers off in turn doesnt make it sound "Cheap" like you think. In fact the custom exhaust place that I have been taking my vehicles to for years, the same place my father in law takes all his hot rods too for 30 years, stated he was surprised on how awesome the car sounded by just taking the mufflers off. It sounds great at idle and tremendous when you get on it, with just a little popping on deceleration.....like a hot rod should sound!! Dont be too quick to judge without hearing it first. There are a couple of You Tube videos that show what it sounds like, you might wanna check it out. And maybe you just dont like the sound of a hotrod, I dont know. Different strokes for different folks. But it doesnt sound cheap at all!!

You are correct - different strokes for different folks. For the record I am a Ford Technician and have worked on all Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles including Mustangs for over 20 years. So I don't base my opinion on YouTube videos. My personal preference for what I would like a street car to sound like is a well built old school big block with headers, full dual exhaust with conservative mufflers of which I have owned several. Keeping that in mind the only 05 & newer Stang I have driven as I stated previously that came close to achieving this was a new Boss 302 with larger discs. I have driven hundreds of Mustangs with every combination of exhaust you can think of including at least a half dozen with muffler deletes as you so adore. I have stated my opinion and will again, there is nothing out there that makes those cars sound worse. When you rev them up or get on them hard it's all exhaust, no engine noise, unrefined, tons of drone, cheap, obnoxious, just plain stupid. To each his own!

Anyone who thinks they are getting a true representation of what an exhaust system sounds like from watching a YouTube video is fooling themselves!

Well I'm sorry you feel this way. We searched many videos and got a pretty good representation of each type of exhaust, being I have a 5.1 surround on my iMac computer. We found a vid which I'll post as soon as I can find it again of the system that sounded nice especially for the price. It doesn't matter to me where you work or what your tastes are but point blank the newer stangs with a muffler delete don't sound bad or cheap like a car with a rotted muffler. I'm no punk kid that has no clue what I'm doing.... You feel a certain way, you would hate the sound of my SVT Lightning - free flow mid pipes from the headers to a Bassani cat back!! Talk about loud!

try this one, this is the one that my wife liked....

another that doesnt sound bad...

So like I said before, it might not be your cup of tea, but they dont sound like crap at all. If you dont like it, well then the good part of living in America, is that you can go spend as much as you want on one that you like.......
