Last night my neighbor decides to mow his lawn at 11PM (uugh) and i was outside smoking. I hear something that sounded like a rock hit his siding on his house. Well apparently the sound of a rock hitting siding sounds alot like a rock hitting my car. I come outside today and see a peeled chip on the hood.

Now i haven't approached him yet since he hasn't returned home from work yet. How have any of you guys maybe delt with property damage like this?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

That's what homeowner's insurance is for. I wouldn't think he'd get too bent out of shape about it. If he doesn't have said insurance, then you should be able to file a claim through your own company.

This is one of those that probably isn't going to go over well with either of you. There is a good chance that if he did really do it, he may not know. Getting someone to agree they did something that they honestly don't believe they did is tough.

I'd ask him if he could of possibly did it by accident, if you were to make an accusation, it may be the last time you ever talk to him. May not be the end of the world, a guy that mows his lawn at 11pm probably doesn't like you that much anyway.

I'd also end it with "WTF were you doing mowing your lawn at 11pm anyway?".

So the chip is a pencil eraser size and i can see the primer under. How expensive do you guys think it would be to fix something like that??? I'm figuring the whole hood would need paint at that point. Its not a Factory laser red though its custom.

My first house was a town house in my early 20's. I have my 94GT for a few months in our designated parking spot. The lady above me tosses her keys down to her daughter who missed, keys hit my bumper, first ding. I'm standing outside watching this. I went crazy on the lady, I just spent $21,000 on this car. The next day I put the Town House up for sale, 16 days later it sells for $11,000 profit. My wife and I buy a house with a garage. The car was garage kept for 17 years after that day.

Let it go. It's not worth souring your relationship with your neighbour. Stone chips happen. Put up a fence if you're that concerned about it becoming a regular occurance.

At most, I would approach him with a neutral attitued, tell him what happened and "ask" him to try to be more careful in the future.

Gearbanger is right. A rock chip is just one of those things, and if you use your car or leave it outside, it is going to happen. Definitely tell the guy, though, so he knows to be careful.

I would get some touch up paint on the chip to keep it from rusting, though.

The hood is fiberglass. There WAS a fence and a bush on the neighbors side. He took it down and now there's no boundary between my and his yard. His grass goes right up to my driveway. He Acknowledged that it was his fault but now we gotta see whats going to happen. The hood wont rust its fiberglass but it really sucks that the paint on this car is barely 2 years old. The paint was multi stage custom mixed. Finding a touchup match will be near impossible. AND ITS ON THE HOOD! Like BAM in your face.

The thing with fixing chips is that over time the clear is going to start showing where it doesn't burn in with the rest of it. I'd push for repainting the entire hood over just touching up the chip.

The kicker is i have a garage. But i have a project in it that i was doing for a friend. He seems like hes still interested in the project but getting his pockets to be is a different story. I think i'll make another thread about why i cant park in my garage.
