So I decided to make a thread to document my attempt at getting a local Orlando, FL Ford Dealership to fix my whining MT-82 manual transmission in my 2011 GT. It's whined ever since I have owned it, but has begun to get worse with time.
Here is a video of the whine:
I also have had a rear end whining problem with my Mustang since I had a dealership in Wichita, KS replace the pinion bearings due to a noise on deceleration at around 45 MPH. After their repair, they test drove the vehicle where it was found to have a very loud gear whine. Note: the gears where not replaced at this time. The only real possible problem had to have come from an incorrect installation (improper pinion depth/gear pattern).
The dealership then replaced the gears under warranty. When the service advisor called me to tell me it was done, I was told to "drive the car and see what you think." So I drove the vehicle to listen for the noise on deceleration around 45 MPH, not a high speed whine. The pinion bearing noise had been fixed, so I took the vehicle home. On the way home, I noticed a rear gear whine at interstate speeds.
I brought the vehicle back a couple weeks later for a test drive with the "lead technician", where he concurred that the rear end made the high speed whining noise. The dealer then replaced the gears again. All was good for a couple weeks, until the whine came back at 50 MPH, and again at 74-78 MPH.
Here is a video of the gear whining. You can hear the whine at steady state cruising, and the whine go away when I let off the gas. It comes back as soon as I get back on the gas:
We then moved to Orlando, FL where I find myself today dealing with one of the local Ford Dealers on these problems.
First, my 2012 Fiesta needed the clutch replaced at 9900 miles due to a major rattle and chatter. We asked the service advisor if we could bring my Mustang in for them to look at and repair the car when the Fiesta was complete. We were told no appointment was needed and to just bring it in when we picked up the Fiesta and they'd take care of it.
When we arrived to pick up the Fiesta, I was told by the same service advisor that they would not be able to even look at my car until 4 days out because they were "half staffed". Let me tell you, I was upset and he and everyone else that was there knew it. Well, my wife’s cooler head prevailed and he agreed to look at the car the next day if we dropped it off.
The next day I was contacted by the Service Drive Manager about my concerns. He verified most of them, but wanted to give me my car back until this Wednesday, where they could have a more qualified technician look at it.
That leads us to now. I will be bringing my Mustang in tomorrow to see if they can figure out how to fix my concerns. I will keep everyone updated on how the service is, and what the fix might be.
