I just picked up a fairly rough 87 GT.
I think it was originally white with a smoke gray sport interior.

The worst part about it is the repaint was poorly done.
It would need paint for me to even want to drive it.
The front and rear bumper covers are cracked to top it off.

I picked the car up on a whim. No plans for it whatsoever.
It is kinda like your woman showing up with a new baby you knew nothing about.
Complete surprise. I saw a good price and bought it right there.

Would you clean it up and flip it?
Would you restore it?
Would you restomod it?
Would you go all out with it?

I was thinking about getting a replacement GT front bumper cover, Cobra rear spoiler, cowl hood, and Cobra rear bumper cover (so I can run nice exhaust in the future)... Then a nice paint job. (Assuming I keep it)

4 yrs ago I was exactly where you are now when I picked up an '87GT vert cheap. I got a great deal so I bought it not knowing whether to part it out or restore it.
I finally decided to restore it. It took a little over two yrs and was alot of fun. It was nicknamed (The Heap)
Unfortunately I had to sell it due to the bad economy.

Somewhere out there now drives an Grabber Orange 87 vert. A car that was destined for the Salvage yard.
It gives me a good feeling knowing that I saved a Fox from the scrapper.

My vote: Save a Fox and fix it up.

Keep it and fix it up, it will be a fun project. I vote for restomod. Clean it up, get some suspension goodies on there, gears, exhaust, subframes, paint, etc. Then when you can move onto a H/C/I swap and 5 lug/rear disc. Just make it a fun street/show car.

I was playing with the car today, and every bit of rust I can find is in the hatch area.
It is all in the hatch itself except for a dime size hole through the metal right where the passenger side roof turns down into the hatch channel. To the outside of the right hatch hinge area, almost in the corner.
I think that spot is going to be the worst part.

Has anyone ran a fiberglass hatch on the street?
Are they heavy and strong enough to do so?
Strong enough to use the stock rear glass?
Or could it be made strong enough?

Fiberglass hatch will be fine on the street. You can also use the stock glass. There is someone on here that has one and I cannot remember who it is......

LarsD bought one and theres another guy with a blue gt that knows exactly what to modify to get the trim glass and the harness into the hatch.... if you search for lars thread all the questions for it are answerd

Going over the car today, I realized I came away with a nice interior.
The more I look at it, it is not as rough as I thought.
The driver's door panel could use replacement, and the driver's seat could used recovering.
Oh, and the shift boot is cracked.
Everything else ranges from acceptable to perfect.
Even the headliner is flawless.
It's all dirty though. I think it will clean up nice.

Well, it never crossed my mind to junk it.
I could spit shine it and sell it for more than I paid for it.

What rims do you have on that blue GT?
The look like 4 lug FR-500s... but the pic is too small to tell.
any fr500 is 5 lug swapped. no 4 lug reps in those unfortunatley

I meant part it out and sending it to the junkyard...

They are GT500 Replica's... when I do the 5 lug swap one of these years, I will be going with the Fr500's for sure!

If you would like, I can PM you a bigger picture.
