I used to own a LS1 camaro A4 with 4.10s and I got just terrible gas mileage but could get pull a lot of cars just off those gears alone. Will 4.10s have the same affect on the mustang? It's my daily driver so if not 4.10s what about 3.73s
I get about 18mpg's right now with 4.10's. Before the 4.10's, I got around 19-20mpg's. The gears aren't going to hurt fuel economy that much. As for the performance aspect of it, they were a night-and-day difference. With the 4R70W tranny 4.10's should be the minimal gear to go with. I almost went 4.30's.
Keep in mind that you're going to need some better tires. I had brand new 275 street tires and they still were no match for 4.10's down low.

I have FRPP 3.73 gears and love them, and I still have issues hooking up with the 245/45 size tires if I don't do it right. They really wake the car up and feel a lot more lively. On my 93 tune I average about 17.5mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, and mixed driving I get about 18-19 mpg... It actually improved my city mpg from stock when I run on 87 octane it gets about 18-19.
