281 to a 302 stroker

Our 281's have a similar stroke as a 351 so stroking it more isnt the optimal way to go. Your increasing the instability of the pistons at a faster speed. Big bore is where you will make more power and safer. You unshroud the valves by doing this.

I think you can big bore the 2V block to 3.73" with darton sleeves. not 100% sure but the aluminum block is the way to go and some have gotten them for under 400 shipped.

You have the ideal block for a Big-Bore. All Mark VIIIs were equipped with the Teksid aluminum block. The BB would be the way I would go, actually did go with my TBird.
 
My 97 gt was bored .030 over and than added a stroker kit to make it a 5.0 by the guy i bought it from, than i added comp cams, patriot heads with a PI manifolds and it has right now about 370 on 93. I still say upgrade some other things and buy a supercharger, they are a lot cooler cuz this was a lot of money for me.
 
Dont waste your money on a stroker kit. If you do a lot of reading on the subject they really don't off a lot of extra HP due to the small cylinder bore ford cursed us with. When you add the additional cost of the kit its really not worth the money.
 
A 3.800" stroke (to get 302ci with a stock bore) seems like an awful lot in the 4.6 block. How long does the rod end up being? What the rod ratio? Does the pin end up in in the ring stack? How far out of the bore is the piston drawn at BDC and how stable is it down there?

Given that these engines are really limited in bore -- the Windsor pushrod motor had a 4" bore and a measely 3" stroke -- and the fact that all the stoke in the world will not make up for the limited resultant valve size, it seems to me that all of the money and effort put into a stroker would be better spent on a supercharger setup...

+1 isn't enough
