Ok, this may be a dumb question because both instrument bezels look identical, but......is the 67-68 COUGAR XR7 instrument bezel the same as the 67-68 MUSTANG instrument bezel???? Both have the exact same layout, but I've never heard of anyone interchanging these bezels nor have I seen in any parts magazines listing the instrument bezels as interchangeable.

The reason I ask is because I have a 67 Cougar XR7 with wood grain instrument bezel & dash that I'm thinking about swapping out for the brushed aluminum instrument bezel and dash inserts like the 67 Shelby has. I know this might stir up controversy among guys who think it's best to keep the car original, but because it's a bolt on part, I'm not too concerned about originality because I can always put the original equipment back in. However, I've never seen a Cougar with the aluminum dash and thought it would be a cool upgrade. My instrument bezel is broke and I need to replace it anyway and I love the look of the brushed aluminum. So does anyone know if they will interchange? I don't want to spend $250-$300 on the dash if they won't interchange. Thanks for the advice...

The 69 could be interchanged because the dash itself was removable. This is not the case in 67-68. I'm pretty sure cutting, and perhaps welding, would be required to use the Mustang dash panels in an xr7.

I saw this post over on MC.net too...Not a bad idea. I was thinking that it may be cheaper to buy a complete aftermarket instrument panel, and then use the aftermarket guages in the stock cougar dash, rather than trying to buy the replacement guages indivdually. I never got around to actually putting a pencil to a piece of paper on it though to see if that was the case..
