Car Haulers Vs. Enclosed Trailers

I've been kicking around the idea of buying a trailer. While I love the idea of driving to the track, running mid/low 10s and driving back home, my realistic side says, "what if you break and can't drive it back?" Each of the 3 tracks are about an hour away give or take 15 mintues for each.

So, I am at a crossroads. I could go the cheap-o route, and buy a drive on top trailer, tandem 3500 # axles w/ brakes, and winch for $2k (about)

-or-

For $4500, I could get a 28' enclosed. Same axles, trailer brakes, etc, BUT now I have cabinets, room for a pit bike/cart, generator, etc. On those late nights leave the car outside and sleep in the trailer instead of having to go home. More storage, etc. Possibly A/C for the hot days or night I sleep inside.

Is it worth the extra coin for the extra features? I plan on racing frequently. Anybody with either type, feel free to pitch in.

Back when I raced four wheelers frequently, we used an open trailer for a long time, it sucked. Had to build a special rack on it just to carry extra tires. Then we got a fully enclosed one and man did it rock. Had enough space to put a tool box in, spare tires and wheels, and not to mention you can lock it up unlike the open one. Anyone could walk up and just start messing with your crap with the open one. Enclosed is the way to go if you have the money. Plus you can advertise on the sides of the enclosed one. That's what we did, put our shop name on the side.

I use an open trailer, works just fine. However.....I'd prefer an enclosed. Unloading all my crap gets a little old real quick. If you can swing it, buy an enclosed and don't look back.

<sigh> yeah, sounds like the right thing to do. I missed a beautiful Haulmark the other day. Black, 28', canopy and flood lights on the pass side, cabinets, A/C, Generator for $7k.

I don't have that kind of money at the moment, but still one heck of a deal.
