My 1998 Ford Mustang GT is stalling in second gear when I downshift. Any Ideas on what it could be. Thanks

Rice in your intake? :p

I'm assuming it does it when you downshift to other gears too, right?

Any CELs?

No its only second gear that does it. No CELs. I'm not sure if its me or if it is the car. If I put it in neutral instead of downshifting it doesn't do anything. It acts like i turned the car off. It doesn't sputter like you stalled it. It always starts right back up after it happens its just weird that it does it.

I'm not clear on what's happening:

Are you saying you're rolling along at, say, 25MPH, downshift into 2nd gear and the engine shuts off? The engine becomes a dead lump under the hood, spinning only by virtue of the car's momentum but with no fire in its belly, so to speak?

That is exactly what I am saying that it is doing.

I wish that were the case. I try keeping the RPM higher around corners and it seems to be ok. Its just hard to do that with where I drive it at. I'm getting it ready to take on the Nürburgring in Germany so i'm trying to make sure its not going to be a continuing issue. I hear that it could be an air issue so I'm looking into that. thanks for everyones help I'll keep everyone posted

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the advice. I figured out its problem. I had just bought the car and it had a nasty air filter. Trust me when I say it was bad. The second thing that I did is replace the pvc valve. It runs a thousand times better. Thanks again.
