Despite it not being the best financial decision, my wife and I decided to buy a new mustang. I was going to go for the base, but my wife talked me into the premium. We got the 2013 v6, white with the performance package and a bunch of other stuff almost a month ago. I love the car so far and have put 1000 miles on it. I was going to change the oil on it being the first and all, but the dealer said to wait 5k miles before the first. What do you guys think? The system check says oil is 92 percent, but I don't want bits of metal screw up my engine. I also got an extended ford warranty, but cancelled it because I didn't want to pay interest on another $3600. The dealer said it will take up to 2 months before the changes show up on my bill, which mean I'll have to pay interest on that without even getting protection from a warranty. Any way I can fight that and get the changes to go through sooner? Thanks for all the replies in advance.

I'd let the oil change go a bit longer. On my GT, I did the first one at about 3300 miles (which was after a year...I don't drive mine as much as you:)). I remember a couple years ago, there was some kind of issue with the engines developing a tick if the first oil change was done early before the engine was broken in, and some people theorized that there may be some kind of additive put in at the factory to help keep it quiet during break-in. I have no idea whether there is anything truth to this or not, though.

Not sure about the warranty cancellation process, but I am curious what kind of extended warranty coverage you had. $3600 seems like a hell of a lot for a warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning more to 3k miles too. The warranty was a ford ESP 84 month 75000 miles that covered everything except the paint job, and had a paint
less dent protection, road hazard on all tires for I think 5 years. Also, it had a low jack system in it too, with the first 10 oil changes in it. It took forever for them to get a decent priced loan, by the time we got to the warranty part it was 9:30 at night and I wasn't thinking straight. My wife always worries about things and the warranty salesman was very convincing. When I decided to cancel, the guy practically said i was an idiot for canceling it. He also had very interesting math, when he said it would only take 6 months off my payments. He wasn't adding in interest for 6 years, but I knew it was bull and takes an entire year off the payments. Sorry for the long reply.

That is an awful lot for a warranty in my opinion. I doubt there is anything you can do about it at this point.
I agree with the premium package. I am just not a big fan of white, but to each his or her own.

Yeah, it was a lot. I wasn't originally going to get the performance white, but we had no car. (Long story not going to go into it.) That was the only one in the area with the premium and performance package. We got in for 27500 so it wasn't a bad deal. The color has grown on me since then. I still like red and black better, but it's so hot here in TX the white really helps with the sun.

Not a bad price at all. I prefer red. I had black once, a 1994, it was beautiful when clean. But keeping a black car clean is more work that I want to do. I would rather drive.

White, I am assuming, is easy to keep clean. What color is the interior?

I had a white 2008 with dark blue Le-mans stripes and I loved the look of that car. Never thought that I would like a white car, but the stripes gave it that old school race car look. I made sure the stripes went from bottom of the front bumper to the bottom of the rear bumper, looked really awesome.

I agree with your choice of premium + performance package. Nothing wrong with the color white, either. You can always add a few minor touches to set it off a little, too. I added black vinyl to my hood going up to the hood scoop and then again on the panel between the tail lights. Your tail lights are different being a '13 model, but you probably get the idea.

Those extended warranties are a rip-off in most cases and the dealer makes a hugh profit (and the warranty salesman, too) on them so don't worry about their scare tactics and name calling is just totally unprofessional. You got smart, they don't get to keep the ill-gotten profits. You win.

Enjoy the car! BTW - your V6 has more power than the 4.6 V8 had.

The interior is charcoal black and looks really nice against the white. I've heard black attracts pollen. The guy at the dealership wanted me to get a black racing strip down the middle, but the $1350 he quoted didn't sound too great.

Thanks, I may do something like that later down the road when I have more money. I really like the interior. I immediately regretted buying the extended warranty with in a week and didn't know I could get a full refund if cancelled within a month. Google helped me out there. If I had paid cash for the car, I might have felt better about it, but with interest tacked on for 6 years there's no question it's a bad deal. My wife said she felt guilty for cancelling it as we were leaving the dealership. I told her those people are good at what they do.

This is my first Ford, but I've heard great things about the reliability of the newer cars. Hopefully, it turns out true. Going from a $4,000 beat up piece of junk 99 Subaru Impreza.(Mechanically sound, but everything else fell apart. The thing was an eyesore.) This stang feels crazy fast. The fastest car I have ever drove or ridden in.

I too never thought I would like white, but I like the white better everyday. I might put some stripes on it too. On a side note, I've gotten lots of compliments on the car, but a really odd one was from a lady my wife works with. She called the car "cute". I've never thought of the car as cute. It's probably the least cute car I have seen.

Your V6 has as much power as my v8, but I bet it doesnt run like a v8 though... LOL-
That is a rip-off on the warranty, I paid $980 for my warranty. 5yrs/100k miles bumper to bumper. I had 30k miles on the car when I got it, so I had to buy an extended warranty (BC the factory warranty runs out at 36k)

I might get an extended warranty again when mine is about to expire. Nope it doesn't run like a v8, but it sure runs better than my 4 cylinder. I might get a gt for the next car, if this car holds up well. I got the car cause we rented a 2011 v6 on our honeymoon and we loved it. Since, I've never spent more than a few thousand on a car until this one; I couldn't bring myself to even test drive a gt in fear of liking it even more. Than I would have to get the premium version. 40k is just too much for a guy still in college. Insurance would kill me too.

I wouldn't sweat not having an extended warranty. Most of what Ford has been building lately holds up pretty well. My brother has an 06 Mustang with over 100,000 miles on it, and it has not had a single problem yet, not even a minor one.

i have a 2013 gt premium white and i would not have any color but white, had a 07 gt/cs black sold it a year later was in yuma arizona in a sand storm, scratched it to pieces, car made me sick, seen every scratch on it,was nice when i got it,just coulsd not stand every scrtach init, guy who bought it never said a word, but he sold it 8 months later too.so far mods are 373s-cai-tuner-exhaust-lca-eibach pro kit-wheels-louvers and scoops.
