Crooked Stripes

Folks ~ I can't even begin to express my gratitude for all of your responses about these stripes painted by Mustang Madness Motorsports. You're all correct in stating that we should get what we pay for...especially when we pay for body and paint that could actually buy a whole car in pretty nice condition!

In the end, I hope that everything works out for me...but you know how it goes. You get so excited to get your car done because an 'expert' who claims they'll deliver...doesn't. As an aircraft mechanic of over 30 years, I know what Quality is. And I would think that anyone who takes on the job knowing that I'm inthe aerospace business would be sure to deliver what they promised. I'll post how the events occur from this point.

Keep the responses coming...

the problem is we dont get to use the same paints here in california so blushing and striping is common they dry so fast its hard not to get stripes in the paint this is not realy the painters fault its shody materials that we are forced to use the paint is like colord water some colors we have to spray a black or silver base coat first, metalics are the worst ,i am afraid we are screwed but were they are able to use good paints every were else there is no excuse for shoddy workman ship

Sure looks obvious to me!:( And I'm NOT a body/paint guy. Seems like its time for you and/or a good attorney to provide this A_$HOLE a new orifice right next to his existing anus!:eek:Or maybe rip his head off and crap into the resulting hole in his neck! Figuratively, of course! Seems like you have a good case, as long as he is a LEGITIMATE, licensed business and you didn't jack him around or string him along on payment, although, even if you were a "slow pay" there is absolutely no excuse for the final results. Personally, I would try to sue him for the funding to have someone with a little pride in their product fix his F--KUP. He's already screwed you once and I'd bet dollars to donuts that if he is forced to fix that, it WON"T be his finest work. If I could avoid it, I wouldn't let him near my car again. Ask again and I'll tell you how I really feel!;)
Just My $.02,
Gene what are you guys using for paint in nevada? is centari still available there or chromabase?got a cousin i havnt seen in about 7 years near lake havasue ,builds boats thought i might see if i could drag my 69 over there and spray it at his shop, you know surprise visit, family reunion? i am not going to waist my time and money on this fruit punch they sell for paint here ,it will probably not be painted again so i want somthing that will last a few. Jim

We were using Glasurit waterbourne here in Tennessee but with the insane humidity here in the summer being between 55 and 90% the clear would haze up horrible so we switched back to solvent.
the clears we are using here buff out nice at first then in two days they haze and you have to buff one more time then they look good dont ask me what clear it is ,it gets droped about every month and they give us some other garbage and tell us how good it is you should here them its like a scammer pulling his scam

Ya shop owners always try to use the cheapest crap out there. We just went from Sherwin Willams to Metalux and now back to Sherwin. Metalux is the worst crap I have ever sprayed. It takes twice as much paint to get everything covered and you spend so much more time tinting on colors and spraying test panels trying to get a color match. Any restorations or custom jobs I do I use Dupont or PPG

Seeing as how you're in CT. Take the car (or show the pictures) to Atwood's Auto appearance in Deep River and get a quote to fix it. He’s a perfectionist and won't have his name associated with any classic restoration that isn't perfect (so don't be surprised when he provides a $$$ to fix it.) Note that he'll likely want to strip it and paint it from scratch (which I would expect to be in the area of $15,000). Use this quote to sue. I wouldn't let MMMS touch the car again at this point.

Coynes Automotive in Westbrook is possibly another good source. Years back all they did was Mustangs, though I have no personal experience of any of their recent work.

Bad advertisement will really hurt them, but they can also try to sue you too.
Sue for what, libel? Truth is an affirmative defense. They'd dismiss the case based upon that. They'd ask: "Did you paint the car in question?" When they affirmed that they did, they would be admitting to painting the stripes crooked. Case dismissed.

You MUST give them the opportunity to fix the problem. If they choose not to thats a different story.I have been through this its not as easy as "did you paint the car", case dismissed.

Not to start anythimg but first of all the pictures r in ur drive way and the car is lower on the right side i see the trunk being off a little but again the car is tilted to the right in the front looks like all he have to do is repaint the lower spoilers and if he only charged u 15,000 for complete body work and paint i thing i would let him fix it and if the stipes r cleared over all he would have to do is wet sand 600 and repaint those areas 15,000 for body and paint would have cost u over 30,000 in most shops also wouldnt be on a forum slandering him not in ur best interest he could sue u for that

Thats F'd up strips I'd be all over they're a@@'s if i had payed that much to get my car painted. How could any painter let something that looks that bad leave his shop??? I wouldn't nor would my boss/master. thats just sad.

I politely requested MMMS's last decision on whether, or not they would repaint the entire car. I was happy that they said they would. They suggest that they will sand down to the basecoat and go from there. Of course, it must be perfect - as you've already pointed out. I stated that if the paint isn't done correctly, then I'll not accept the car. (If I have to, I'll hire a 3rd party assessor to inspect the car...and validate/invalidate my perception.)

Also, I'm waiting for them to tell me what a reasonable amount of time is, to repaint the car. I said 2 weeks....but they said that was too short. I'll wait to see what they come back with. I know how long the process takes....so I'm interested in hearing the commit date. Lastly on this topic....I stiplulated that for every day past the date they commit to have my car completed, there must be a refund of some agreed-to percentage of the total service price.

We also need to arrive on an agreement regarding transporting the car to and from his shop. I already paid transport to and from once...so I belive I've already satisfied my end of the deal.

Do you guys (ladies) think this is reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me. You want to give them enough time to do it right, but you don't want them to park it in the back of the shop and feel "we're not making any money on this, we'll get to it when we can between other jobs". On transporting -- most garages have contact with one or more towing companies. I would think they could get it done for free, or a small favor.

As Ive stated before I do this work for a living and I also thought your stripes looked pretty bad. Doing this stuff every day and knowing what I know there is no way I would repaint the entire car just because of the stripes. All that would need to be repainted is the front spoilers, hood, decklid and rear body panel. I wouldnt even touch the roof because those stripes look fine.I think if that shop has agreed to repaint the entire car they are going above and beyond to try and make this right for you. Trying to make the shop give you a finish date and asking for a refund for everyday they fall behind to me is unrealistic. This kind of work takes time and when doing an all over paint job if it can go wrong it will. Like I tell my shop manager all the time you can have it right or you can have it fast but not both also you cant rush perfection.

Certainly all valid points. I would just hope they would give him some type of time frame so it doesn't get pushed to the back of the shop. As long as they are working on it, it takes the time it takes. I have a feeling though, they'll be just as anxious to fix it and get it out as he will.

I agree. They know the guy is pissed about the job so I think they will get it in and get it out.
