Hey everyone, I just bought a 1991 GT 5.0 about a week ago. This is my first muscle car i've ever owned and I am pretty happy with it so far, except for it dying when I put it into neutral to come to a stop. Here is what it has on it that I can see (have been told):

302 V8 bored .60 over
Trick Flow upper and lower intake
Trick Flow heads
75mm Throttle Body (EGR Removed)
Hooker Headers
MSD Ignition coil
MSD Ignition Box (not hooked up)
BOSCH Platinum 4-way plugs
ACCEL 8mm wires
.308? COMP CAM
CAI w/ K&N
Cats removed and I believe its Trick Flow pipes all the way back.
So, I'm just curious, about how much hp do ya'll think this pony is putting out?

trickflow makes exhausts? u mean bbk or something?
Yea, I thought it was odd too, the guy I bought it from said they were Trick Flow, but I didn't think they made exhausts. I will find out when I get it out of the shop. I will be putting flowmasters on it. Either the 40 or the 10 series.

I just got a 1991 LX Notch last night. Sounds like I have almost exactly the same upper engine setup with the exception of mine having BBK headers and full exhaust with dumps in front of the axle. It lopes pretty damn good and sounds awesome, but occasionally it likes to die while idleing. I'm assuming my timing is off a hair. Haven't really had anytime to play with it yet as I haven't had it a full 24 hours yet and I'm at work as I type this. Some help on this dieing issue would be greatly appreciated.

See the "Surging Idle Checklist” for help with all your idle/stall problems. You can guess at the problem and throw parts at it, or you can use the checklist to help you find the problem quickly and inexpensively. The checklist is right here in the Stangnet 5.0 Tech forum and you don’t have navigate to some other unknown web site. It‘s free and doesn’t cost anything: at last count there were more than 103,000 visits and still climbing

The quick and easy way to dump the codes is in there too, and all you need to do it is a paper clip! The first two posts contain all the fixes & updates. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

Right, it's a 308 now correct?

A 308 is a stock 5.0 block bored .040 oversize

Only a very very few stock 5.0 blocks will withstand being bored .060 over. The light weight of 5.0 blocks is due to the thinness of the metal, especially the cylinder walls and the webbing that supports the crank. In most cases a .060 overbore either cuts through into the water jacket or leaves so little metal that the cylinder will not withstand usage.

Great. :-(
I hope mine will last, or at least I hope the guy I got it from just didn't know what he was talking about.

I have another question. I have seen a lot of pictures of other peoples 5.0's and I was wondering, what side is ya'll dipstick on? Because mine is literally right behind the alternator on the passenger side. So, i'm wondering if I even have a ford 5.0 engine.

Ok, so I was searching CL for another Weld wheel, when I inadvertently talked to the actual guy that built the engine. Turns out that the guy I bought it from wasn't the most stand up guy. Long story short, he was not the guy that built the engine and he skipped town a few days after selling me the car and still owed the actual builder money for that engine.

That said, the engine is in fact a 302, just an old one that came from a Fairlane, and it is only bored .40 over (wipes sweat from brow)

I talked to my mechanic today and he had the engine pulled out and told me that the only number he could find (so far) was 139Q52. So far, I have been unsucessful in determining what this number is. I thought it might be a VIN to the engine, but can't seem to find anything on the net. Any ideas? Anyway, I will be posting pics when I get it back.

Congrats and welcome to Stangnet and Foxbody ownership. Keep updating the thread with your findings. Good to see some new blood around here.

Thanks man. My first stang was a 2000 mustang V6 back in 2000. I never got around to doing any work to it. I also didn't have it but maybe a year before trading it for a V8 F150. I have since longed for another stang and am now excited to have one.
