Removing Adhesive From Door Panels

I'm one of the lucky owners who has door panel inserts that have given in to the heat. I've reglued them twice with poor results. I guess I did not use the right product, but it's too late now. They are just too caked up with adhesive that didn't work. I decided to just tear it all off, including the backer, and make an aluminum insert plate. There's a good surface back there if I can just get the adhesive off. Evidently, Ford used the worst glue to put on the vinyl and the best glue on earth to attach the backer to the door panel. I've tried lacquer thinner, xylol, naphtha, alcohol, brake cleaner, goo gone, and oops. Nothing has made a dent. The only I know left is the 3m stuff. I'm going to try to get some tonigh, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

When I did mine the old adhesive / foam was dry.... came right off with a dry scotch bright pad, no liquid
at all, it just crumbled right off in seconds. I used contact cement and its still holding after 6 months.
