If you havent seen my build, here it is: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/5-0-swap-92-notch-2-3.852405/

I now have a 7month old little boy and my mustang is my current daily driver. I spend $30 in gas every 2 days just going back and forth to work. It has no a/c at all. Needs new oil rings, starting to smoke. Headlights are screwed up. And its to little to get a baby in and out of the back. So the people I bought it from like 5years ago and now willing to trade back with me and they are offering a 2002 black cadillac escalade with brand new a/c, its four door so it be easier with a baby. Im not sure about the gas mileage in it though...its a big truck and its either a 5.3l or a 6.0l so idk if its going to be better on gas or not. Its nice though, more family friendly then my stang but Id hate to see my car go :( What you guys think? Pros/Cons?

If you are daily driving your Stang, the Escalade is not going to be much of a financial improvement. An 02 probably has a bunch of miles, and nothing on that vehicle is inexpensive to repair. Especially the ac, its all computer controlled, etc, so simple fails take a lot of troubleshooting to figure out. Same for the windows, locks, lights, sound, seats, etc. The Mustang would be easier to fix the ac, and keep going. Just my 02. For comparison, we have an 02 Explorer w/200k miles, and even some of it is a pita to keep up.

I wouldn't do it. A big pig of an SUV... Why not put the stang on some sort of custom car insurance or whatever, and get yourself a used Focus to DD? I bought an 03 Focus ZX5 for dirt cheap, it's been really reliable, AC is cold, power everything (heated seats too), cheap on gas, cheap for insurance and family friendly size...

I guarantee you're getting better mileage in your Stang. Count on real world mileage being in the low/mid-teens at best. The Escalade is a nice vehicle for certain...but at best, you're trading laterally. You're not going to improve your financial standings any. Not to mention....it's now going on 13-years-old. It's going to be subject to all the same issues your Stang currently is.

all things being equal I say jump on it. Both vehicles are aged. Neither are worth a lot per se, neither get great mileage. If your engine is in the state of disrepair that you describe I have no doubt that 6 liter is getting the same or better mileage. The caddy has four doors and a/c. I see this as a no brainer. Jump on it.

just a quick post script. you have a swapped 4 banger. TRADE NOW!!!!!!! I realize you put a lot of work in your car but its worth more as parts than a whole car. Good luck getting more than a grand for it. not to be mean or a dick but a labor of love never pays dividends, so incase you missed it before. TRADE NOW!!!!!!

I wouldn't do it. A big pig Lac like that will get you low teens, it'll make the 5.0 in your mustang look amazing. Having said that, I know how it is with kids, as I have two. Can you sell some other stuff, I saw you have some bikes, dump them to get a DD car of some sort. Save the stang. You'll kick yourself years later for getting rid of a nice Mustang, esp. a notch, they are getting harder to find clean, at least by me in Ohio... Good luck with what ever you do... Ultimately, you'll need to do what is going to be right for you and you're little one...
