I have an 88 mustang gt with a 302 and an AOD. The other day I'm driving and pull up to a stop light and the car dies. I hit the key and it restarts, but then when I take off its horribly sluggish until about 35mph and then picks up and drives normal. I then stop again and the car shudders real hard and dies. This time I cannot get the car restarted, and it sounds like the engine is locking up. However I can put the car in neutral and it will start and teh engine will run just fine. Now the trans however, kills the car in park revers and first gears. It's not neutral safety switch or vacuum. The car sounds like the engine is locking up when it dies, but the trans is causing it. I'm thinking the Torque Converter is trashed. Any insight would be fantastic. Thanks.

Sorry if im bringing back a dead thread but AoD trans pressure makes a HUGE difference if it gets out of wack as well. Mine was way to low and wasn't disengaging clutch packs to downshift and would nearly stall my motor every time I stopped. I went and followed the txchange guide of how to adjust them ( http://www.txchange.com/aodadj.htm ) and viola, fixed all my problemos chirps the tires right into 3rd now and downshifts as it should. Not saying that will fix your problem but making sure that it's right is a great place to start.
