Cam Only????

You can, depending on the cam. Some are mild enough that they'll work fine without porting the heads or even changing the valve springs.

However, these will be the cams that give the most minimal gains.

What are your goals with the car?

Depends on the cam specs. I actually gained half a tenth in the 60' with stage II blower cams. I had the stock converter and 3.27 rear gears, leaving at 1800 rpm. So that gain had to have come in the lower RPM band.

Also, to the OP, yes you can do just a cam swap. My personal opinion of the cam choice is either a stage II Hitech, or a stage II Modular Head Shop cam. I personally know people with strong running cars using both of these cams. And they don't require aftermarket springs, either. You'll pick up around 25 rwhp peak to peak, with more than that from 5500 rpm up. The loss down low probably won't be noticeable, if any at all.
