I'm not made of money (yet). So my budget would be $750 max for one. I would prefer a custom piece rather than an off the shelf.

I've done alot of research and i hear good and bad about every brand. I want something that will hold 650+ hp.

My transmission is a manual valve body AOD with upgrades. The converter needs to be a Non-Lockup.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Chris

At mine and my dads shop, we get Dacco torque converters for all our customers (probably 98% of customer vehicles are stock or very mild builds). Dad's drag car has a 3200-3600 stall in his C4 and it's flat out awesome. I have a very mild stall in my truck that's lasted me 2 years and it has a mild 351 so Dacco is nice. Plus they give a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty if I remember correctly. Their diesel torque converters are also amazing. My dad's Cummins is putting out about 1000 ft. lbs of torque and has a triple disk low stall converter, it's holding up just fine.

And IIRC, dad paid way under $750 for his converter.

Give Dacco a call and see what they can do for you.

Also, I've heard some good things about TCI. Haven't had much experience with them since we deal with Dacco, though.

He was aawesome to deal with. Got back to my emails every time within at least 8-12 hours being the very most, other emails were rapid responses. I know a lot of guys on the boards have used him and had nothing but luck. My converter, so far so good. Got a nice t-shirt out of the deal, too!!! LOL

All seriousness, he has a great product and exceptional customer service. You give him (I'm completely drawing a blank on his first name right now) what your combo is and he will spec a Converter just for that. The raceshop I frequent said the converter felt a little too tight and he said no problem, send it back and he would loosen it up for me. Overall great experience

I sent him an e-mail over the weekend with my specs. No response yet. Maybe i'll call.

I was using a 2400 stall B&m from my old 302 build. Tci Recommended to me a $539 3000-3400 stall and said that i will also need their hardened input shaft for another $211.

I'll also check out Dacco too.

Precision Industries sells triple disk converters for north of $1000....Can't do it. lol

For that price I'd look into a pro torque single disk lock up. Triple disk will run around a grand same price as my PI triple disk.

Pro torque will build one to your needs just gotta call and talk to them

I was told i couldn't run a lockup converter. I have a manual valve body AOD. I was looking at the PI converters too. I just want something that will reliably hold 500-600hp

I'd go over that with joe... The guy knows converters. Personally I don't see why you wouldn't run a lock up converter. Helps with streetablity and will help it pull up top

Andre (owner) at Edge Racing Converters gets my vote as well, great product, extremely knowledgable with the AOD set-ups, never been disappointed with anything from him.
