Just Bought New Headlights In Black For My '99 & Want To Also Get Hid Kit That's Reliable!

I just bought a set of brand new Black Headlights from American Muscle for my '99 GT and am also looking to get a New replacement set of Fog Lights as well. I want to go with an HID Kit that's super reliable for both the headlights and foglights.

Any recommendations/customer testimonials on where I can get QUALITY, and RELIABLE HID KITS for both, on-line and at a fair price?

Thanks in advance.

good luck, i got rid of my black headlights, poor visibility at night, even with HID's. looks cool during the day though, blacked out and all. Oh and if its raining at night, forget it, you'll ask yourself if your lights are actually on.

UNLESS you got clear lenses and the backing is the black area.. that would be different.

Yeah mine are clear lenses with black backings.
Does anyone know where and who on-line offers High Quality, Reliable HIDs for a reasonable price? I also want a HID kit for my foglights.
Also want the HIDs for the headlights to work both the low and high beams.

DDM Tuning. I've been running them for 3 years now, no issues!

+1. Been running them for a couple of years. My fogs went out after about a year and a half, but I think that's because I turn them on and off quite a bit. While the headlight glare isn't that terrible, HIDs in the foglights WILL blind everyone on the road unless they are pointed straight at the ground.

As someone who has personal experience running HIDs in reflector Mustang housings, I'm gonna say steer away from it. Not so much on account of blinding other people (it's really not that bad), but more so because you can't see all that well with them. Because the HID bulb is a different shape than the 9007 bulb the housing was designed for, it just doesn't project the light like it should. You'll wind up with an ugly beam pattern that looks fine in one spot, and no significant amount of light in another.

I haven't done a ton of research on it, but look into retro-fitting them with real, projector HIDs. It's actually not that much more expensive than just slapping HID bulbs in. Check out http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ The DDM Tuning kit is going to cost every bit of $80 (and that's the cheapest kit there is). You can get a complete, 100% everything-you-need kit from The Retrofit Source for around $250, or piece it together yourself for a bit cheaper (really cheap if you can find projectors out of a junkyard car or something). And this way, you'll have REAL HIDs with a super bright, super wide, super clean beam of light that doesn't blind others. Plus it looks pretty good in your headlight as well. :nice:

Sorry guys but Now I'm more confused.
What do I need to know and what I'm I looking @ cost wise for each the headlights & then a price for the foglights?
Do I go with 35 or 55?
I'm looking for a bright white w/a blue hue.
I go to their websites and it would be nice if I could just go and click by car type and then see the products, but I don't see that.
Any help appreciated.

DDM or VVME. I've dealt with both. Just get a 35w and 6000k and you'll have the lighting you need. 55w isn't necessary but it'll be blinding because of the stock housings. 35w is much crisper and focused, and is what I run.

Here's mine with DDM 6000k in both the headlights and the fogs.

DON'T get VVME!! I read a few things a few years ago about them being great and I had 3 friends all get screwed by them! 3 friends, with 3 different cars, with 3 different temperatures. Not only were they bad, but the customer service was terrible and they didn't make good on their "warranty".

DDM all the way. All my friends run them and none of us have ever had a problem. And for $35 a set for the slim ballast kits, how can you go wrong?!

What about everything else they ask you such as an HID harness, error eliminator, adaptor cables, and mounting brackets?

mounting brackets are optional, but not worth it IMO. Just mount them however you want.

Error eliminator is for any car that alerts you of an out bulb.... No mustang since the mid to early 80's that I know.

Pigtail Adapter cables are usually for fog lights or when utilizing a different HID bulb (from d2s to d2r or vice versa)

Harness is essential if you plan on purchasing the 55w kit, which I don't recommend. The 35w will suffice.

Thanks! Very helpful.

So basically, if I wanted to do headlights AND fogs, I would two of those kits, one with the the adapters? What bulbs would I want for the fogs?

I would suggest going to sylvanias website and using the bulb application and determine which bulbs your car uses. You then can order the appropriate bulbs for your kit then. I don't believe your car will require the adapters. I just did my old mans terminator and it didn't require them.

As for bulb color. The 4300k provides the most lumens and is the temperature used by all auto manufacturers, but leaves a little to be desired in the way of color. if you want a blue tinge, the 5k or 6k will work. 8k is a mix between bluefish purplish and by the time you get to 10k and up expect purple and significantly less illumination, or lumens.

Any other questions feel free to ask :nice:

That's exactly the look I want for my 1999 GT show car, thanks for the picture stprorolla49.
Can you please tell me exactly what you bought from them, line by line and part#s if you have that so I can order these bad boys! :p
Do I need to purchase my own bulbs outside of DDM or do they come with the kit for $35? Can I get everything I need from DDM and what EXACTLY do I need to make all this work and look like your car?
The 9007 is the headlight bulb#, what# is the foglight bulb...I also want to run HID for my fogs.
Thanks again for all your help.
