Old hot rodder formula. Add 4 liters ATF, 1 liter of Varsol. Drive around an hour, drain, good to go.

I agree with Sea Foam. Do you know what is special about transmission fluid for this purpose? It has friction modifiers (those may not be a good thing on your Babbitt bearings) and I was always told it was a low grade hydraulic fluid. Did it have some cleaners in it before motor oil did?

I am printing off your gasket post numbers.

95Vert... and Larrym1961,

PLEASE, PLEASE let us know if you also find a better gasket than the Fel-Pro 1250 intake gasket. This kind of failure is unacceptable. Fel-Pro brags about being the best, is usually is a very good gasket , and is supposedly the leader in sealing tech. Last time I saw Victor gaskets stocked was at a LARGE Napa store, but the local store carries Fel-Pro. You'll have to ask around at your stores. 20 years ago, (when I last used and sold them), I felt the Victor's were a cheaper substitute. But they got the job done with sealers. Maybe someone with access to the Fel-Pro catalog can come up with a better application! I have a set for 96-7 Explorer I can measure the port size, see what they are made like, and get the part number up if I like them.

I ended up getting the Felpro 1262s-3

Its a steel core gasket. I hear this eliminates the migrating and tearing issues the non steel core gaskets have.

the "s-3" signifies steel core. It probably means Paper/Steel/Paper as it is a 3 layer gasket with steel at its core.

So if you use a 1250 then order a 1250s-3 to get the steel core. I had trouble finding my gasket locally because the port was so large.

I also plan on using steel core Valve cover gaskets. (Really hate when the metal ring falls out the cork ones) Felpro's rubber steel core ones called "PermaDry" are supposed to seal very well. P/N "VS13264T"

Chris

BTW i got a bottle of Sea Foam. How long do you guys think i should let the engine idle?

I used a steel core Fel-Pro intake gasket for the stock 5.0 and opened up the ports to match my TFS intake and heads and have had good luck with those. No more melted & torn gasket, vaccume leak, or my original problem and 95Vert383AOD's problem, a coolant leak.

Victor Reinz intake gaskets are available @ our AutoZone store here in Post Falls Id. Another Stangnet Member suggested I use those. I probably would have tried them but I allready had the Fel-Pro steel cores in place.

My water crossover ports were to the point where if that one behind the thermostat didn't leak then any of the other 3 would have leaked inside of 6 months. But at least it looked like i did a great Torque job.

I torque my gaskets in 4 steps and keep repeating the torque sequence until the bolts stop moving before going to the next torque setting. (Yeah it takes forever but it made 1250 gaskets lats 4 years.) I Torqued my intake to 6/12/18/24.
