Need Opinions Quick On 2001 Gt 'vert

Hello all, 1st post here on Stangnet. I'm a long time Corvette owner (7 C4's over the past 16 years!) looking for my first Mustang. I've decided on a sn95 for my 60 mile/day interstate commute to and from work. I've had several friends with sn95's and have always liked this model 'stang.

I found a 2001 GT Convertible 5 speed black which fills all my prerequisites. The pic's look excellent. Through Emails owner reports the car runs and drives excellent. The car appears bone stock and has 151,000 highway miles. High mileage doesn't scare me as long as the car is not been abused or beat on which this car appears neither.I'm going to check the car out tomorrow.

Book says it's worth around $7,000 but I know how book values go. The owners original add said he was looking to trade for a motorcycle and had no price. I emailed and asked how much he'd sell the car for. He came back with $5,000. I'd love to hear the opinions on the forum here. Sounds reasonable to me but, I'm no 'stang expert.

SO - is $5,000 fair for a 2001 'vert 5 speed bone stock body/top/interior in very good to excellent condition with 151,000 miles? I may offer a bit less and see how that goes. The car is in the SouthWest so, rust is not an issue. I've been working in motorsports/restoration my entire adult life and do all my own mechanical and body work.

Unless the car has something incredibly special about it, I'd lowball at 2g and not pay more than 4g.

with convertibles a lot of the cost depends on where (and when) you are looking in Florida, California or most of the southwest a good convertitble will be worth a lot more than in the northeast or midwest

I know here in SoCal you can't get a running convertible anything, much less a Mustang GT, for 2 grand

Depends on the condition of the top. First thing I would do is expand your search area on something like autotrader and see what cars with the same mileage are going for. Being your in the job you have that helps you see common problems. No leaks, no outward bound rust, and odd noises. If I was in your position and the car was right I could see $4500 ish.

Yea, in central FL a 99-04 Convertible with that mileage will go from $4k stock to $6ish with some mods done to it.

Keep in mind it is about $1k to replace the top with a quality one.

If you're looking for something heavily modified like mine would be if it were for sale. Supercharged, suspension, brakes, 31 spline axles and Al driveshaft, Corbeau seats..you'd be more in the $10k range. Mine was safely tuned and has 156k miles. But the paint is peeling and missing clear. But it If I were to paint it I'd be more in the $14k range here..

It sounds a bit high to me, I just sold my 99 GT (non-vert) to my brother in law for about $4,000 and it has less miles and a number of performance mods (eibach springs, X pipe, catback, sub frames, aftermarket leather seats etc.) Also has a paint defect that will cost few hundred to fix. Just dropping in here today for a so long, farewell, and goodbye

Def +1 on the top...I got my 03 GT vert for $8800 with 50k miles 2 years ago totally bone stock....but the back window leaked....blue book is 14k not that I'm looking to sell.....got it for a steal in my eyes
