Yea, I know... I was for warned not to use it, and buy the one piece gasket. Well, the 4 piece gasket came with the engine gasket kit for the GT40 heads, so I went ahead and used it. Bad news, rear seal got pinched off centered, and oil leaked. In process right now installing the one piece.

Done, no leaks.. Much more solid gasket... Mine only cost $20 @ autozone, Felpro with the steel core. Personally I liked the alignment pins, they hold the gasket in place/holds pan up/holds rails up (done in frame). Snaked gasket around lower end, and just had to raise engine up.

more than once I have had the plastic thread break off inside the block and I had to chase them out.
Have you tried weather strip adhesive to hold the gasket in place? I have found that it works very well if you clean the surfaces with MEK or acetone.

Yes the 4 piece gaskets are the worst ever. The 1-piece gaskets arent always reusable but much better. To install it I was able to do it by just lifting the motor up a couple inches, and sliding small pieces of wood between kmember and engine mounts. Drop the pan, slide the gasket around the crank, bolt it back up and drop the motor, done. Last time I took my timing cover off though with the one piece gasket it ripped the front part of the gasket off. I had to drop the pan and change it again.
