Very cool. While I wouldn't buy a Fox bod as an investment, its for the reasons they listed that I can't seem to pull away from these cars.

What makes the fox-body Mustang so special in my mind is the availability and low cost of repair parts, aftermarket parts and the ease of working on these models. With so many parts available you can keep your Mustang running for a substantial lower price than comparable cars View attachment 140331 with similar performance. I was no mechanic nor did I have any automotive skills but I was able to replace transmissions, intakes, full-exhaust work, radiators, fuel pumps, etc. with minimal knowledge and basic tools. I guess you could say these cars were a blessing because with out them I would not be where I am today.

This is awesome lol. But a lot of us have more than just 5k in our cars. So it'll be YEARS before most of us don't lose our ass if we try to sell lol.

Good luck finding an investment grade fox for 5 grand. You might buy one to work on and try and make an investment car out of it but you'd have a lot more than 5 in it.

they definitely seem to be gaining value as clean unmolested ones are getting harder and harder to find. plus the people that were in high school and couldn't afford one when these cars were new are old enough to be established enough to be able to afford a toy that they remember from their youth. the abundance of parts at great prices is an added bonus.

only problem with these cars getting to the "investment" point is then the check book clowns get involved and ruin it for all the run of the mill enthusiasts. prices will skyrocket and price a lot of regular guys out of the fox body cars.. it really sucks.. saw it happen with mopars not so long ago...

cool to see that!! but really if i bought mine for an investment id be broke with a total amount invested in my car around 35k or more cant imagine the hit id take if i sold her... ha ha ha thats why i never will that being one reason the other being i love the god dam car!

I dont think it will ever be as bad as what the MOPAR guys go thru to get parts thankfully. I dont think the run of the mill fox mustang is going to be worth a ton of money ever, but im sure saleens, and real cobras will bring ridiculous cash someday.

SOMEONE will SOMEDAY reproduce almost the entire car. The economy here the past few years has slowed the process. I just search until I find the parts I want in the condition I want. If I can't find them, I restore them as best I can and wait. I find deals on cheap OEM stuff all the time. If it wasn't for the torque boxes on this car, I'd have restored it to original. It will still be original appearing with the exception of wheels and hood, both of which I have.

Unless it returns more than the rate of inflation (3%) each year...it's not an investment.


That means if you paid $3K for your car in 2006, you need to sell it for $3582 in 2012 just to break even with what you paid vs the rate of inflation. Throw in maintainence and other expenses and pretty much any vehicle is a depreciating liability.

They are good cars to flip if you find the right deals though, a few years back i bought one for 1900, sold the extra hood it came with for $200, did a tune up on it, drove it for a month, and sold it for $3400.
