Ground breaking news from the floor of SEMA, that's right folks the innovators are back!! Trick Flow Specialties has come out with a NEW Twisted Wedge head for the small block Ford. I know what you are thinking. How can Trick Flow improve o...
r change the number one small block Ford head of all time? Well let me tell you about it and introduce to you the Twisted Wedge 11R cylinder heads.

-Trick Flow took the stand 15 degree intake valve, 17 degree exhaust valve arrangement and stood them up. The new head now has an 11 degree intake and 13 degree exhaust angle.

-Full CNC ported with CNC profiled chambers. Even the casting is CNC machined to give the new head a billet look.

-8mm valves

-Light weight 1.300 hydraulic roller valve springs

-7/16 rocker studs

-1/2" heads bolt holes

-Optional titanium or chromoly retainers

-Multiple port and chamber options

-Multi-angle valve job

-Ductile iron seats and bronze alloy valve guides


I know a lot of you will have many questions on the new heads and I will be updating you with more information as soon as possible so keep your eyes open.

Anyone else surprised to see companies still working to improve the 5.0 cylinder head? It's proof of two things:

1) Ford really sucks and left a lot on the table with this engine, and if they continued developing the 302 instead of the mod engines, who knows what they'd have by now (not knocking the mod motors, they're awesome..just saying)

2) 5.0 performance is never going to die.

I think what we're seeing though is CNC technology advancing to the point that it's starting to catch up with hand porting skills. Before long they'll just make raw castings that are custom CNC'ed instead of hand ported for a particular application.

Oh, I think CNC has long surpassed hand porting. I'm sure there is some hand blending that goes on during the development stage of the prototype ports, but I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the high end stuff is developed with flow analysis software, modeled in CAD, and sent straight to the CNC machining center.

Well, i don't know if i'm ready to surrender to the machines just yet. I'm sure there's some wise old sage out there who can hand port and work his magic on a set of heads like nobody's business, but I have no doubt that CNC porting is far superior from an equal runner perfection stand point. Even the most experienced hand porter is gonna have issues making each runner the exact same size and shape, whereas a CNC mill makes the exact same port every time.

One of the only reasons i haven't bought aftermarket heads yet (besides being poor) is because the guy who did my valves was so impressed with the hand porting job. He was an older guy and has been doing heads/machine work for longer than i've been alive, so if he's impressed then it must be a pretty stellar job.

The LSx engines are proof positive that Ford jumped the gun on declaring the pushrod dead.
Ever since the LSx came out in 97, Ford has been trying desperately to keep up.
