I'm getting ready to replace my head gaskets since one has antifreeze leaking out from under the head. I've got the wire locs in it now with TFS 170's on a DSS level 10 306 short block with girdle and 12 psi from a Kenne Bell SC. If there is a better choice for a head gasket I want it, wrenching is fun but driving is better. Any suggestions on head gaskets or other things I can do to avoid leaking head gaskets?
Also, before I tear into it what is the best way to determine if my rings are okay? I have not run a compression check yet but intend to. If I get a low cylinder I'll add oil and recheck to see if the pressure comes up, yes = rings, no = gasket. Are there better methods?
Finally, at the risk of making a multi-thread post, if I go to studs instead of head bolts will I be able to get the heads on and off with the engine in the car? It looks like it will be tight with the brake booster.
I recently found and joined this forum, it is one of the best I've seen, wish I'd found it years and $$'s ago.
